Family History can be a wonderful tool for personal memories, yet those memories may also impact on total strangers!

The following story was submitted by one of our Members.

My family story regarding the Austin Car begins in Kiama, NSW after the end of WW1. My Grandfather, Sydney George Beaver had married his English bride in 1919 and returned to Australia and settled for a time in Kiama. He opened a garage to service vehicles and also hired out a seven-seater English Austin.
My Grandfather had made a promise to my Grandmother's parents that he would taker her back to England for a visit. So after five years they sold the garage and journeyed to England. Whilst there, the family moved to Birmingham for a time where Grandfather worked at the Austin Car Factory. Unfortunately, my Grandmother became ill and was advised that the Australian climate would suit her better.
On arrival back in Australia, the family settled at Drummoyne in Sydney. My Grandfather began working for Larke, Neave and Carter, the Austin and Chevrolet firm, at Camperdown. He became known as the Austin specialist of Australia because of his time spent at the Birmingham factory.
In August/September of every year the family took holidays at Peaks Point, Gosford, Mr Neave lent the family his cottage and a car

How wonderful it would be if one of the visiting Austins still had an original service log from Larke, Neave and Carter with a signature of S G Beaver!
