On Saturday 16th May our members, Sophie & Rebecca, attended the Singleton Emergency Services Expo along side members from numerous RFS brigades.
The morning was hosted by Singleton Council & was a great way to get out & show what role the RFS has in the community.
Sophie & her fellow junior members ran a pumping & fire fighting demo for the crowd which was a big hit, especially with the kids.
Sophie & Rebecca then spent time on the stand talking to visitors, explaining the idea of junior membership with the RFS (& all it has to offer!) plus time spent visiting all the other services stands.

Wishing all members across NSW RFS a very happy St Florian's Day aka International Firefighters Day!

School holidays also mean Juniors Training at FCC Bulga!
Sophie made the trip down yesterday for a day of drills.
We were fortunate to be invited in to the Comms room to see Firemapper in use in real time with crews working on the Owensdale Fire (Putty) updating the map as we watched.
It was a hive of activity with Nat Parks next door & aerial support helicopters flying overhead.
The juniors also ran through a pumping exercise that they will be putting on display at next month's Emergency Services Expo in Singleton.
We wrapped up the day with some 10 pin bowling RFS style with staff also getting involved.
We are so lucky to have these opportunities for our junior members & are very grateful to FCC Bulga for their ongoing support!

Monday the brigade assisted NPWS to establish the Spring Creek Hazard Reduction burn behind Jerrys Plains.
At 1am on Tuesday the brigade responded to a call for help to an injured motor bike rider on the Hunter Main Fire Trail. A joint RFS, SES and ambulance crew arrived first and the injured person was air lifted to hospital . The brigade got back home at 6am.

Importantly, the bike rider activated a PLB (personal locator beacon) so crews were dispatched to a rescue at a known location, not a search over a large area. An important thing to remember if you are going bush.

What a morning at the Martindale Rural Fire Brigade NSW Community Breakfast!

This morning’s breakfast was a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many friendly faces — RFS members, neighbours, and community supporters all coming together to enjoy a delicious breakfast. We even had such a great turnout that we had to send out a little recon mission for extra supplies!

A big thank‑you to the members who joined us from Baerami Rural Fire Brigade and Bureen Rural Fire Service NSW, as well as our colleagues from NSW Rural Fire Service - Hunter Valley Comms and Deputy Group 4. Your support and presence made the morning even more special.

Here are just a few photos from early in the day — the calm before the crowd rolled in.

If you think this is something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to hear from you. Our brigade is always ready to welcome new members and community supporters.
