Marrickville High School

Marrickville High School Welcome to Marrickville High School, a dynamic comprehensive public high school in the Inner West.

Mission

Marrickville High School provides exceptional learning opportunities for all of its students in a supportive and caring environment. Coupled with quality teaching, students are encouraged to achieve personal excellence through a tailored curriculum that meets the needs and talents of each student. Description

Founded in 1929 on the site of the original Marrickville Council Chambers, Marr

ickville Girls Intermediate High School was later named Marrickville Junior Girls High School in 1954. Growing enrolments, as a result of a boom in the migrant population, led to a proposal to build a new secondary school in 1969 on the present site of Sydenham Road. In 1977 Marrickville Girls High School was officially opened by Governor of New South Wales, Sir Arthur Roden Cutler. In 1979 the school became coeducational and was renamed Marrickville High School. Sporting facilities include a dance studio, two full sized playing fields, an undercover netball court, two basketball courts and two cricket practice nets. A multipurpose centre incorporating a gymnasium, and indoor basketball court also acts as the schools assembly hall - offering ‘inner city’ students plenty of space to move. Marrickville High School houses two fully equipped teaching kitchens and state of the art woodwork facilities for its design and technology courses. Students are offered creative fulfillment through music, drama, art, creative writing and poetry programmes. Our school is staffed by dedicated, experienced professionals who genuinely care for the well-being and progress of each student. Their aim is to develop successful learners who are able to reach their potential, and equip students with the skills and attitude, to be ready for the demands of adult life.

We are incredibly proud of these Year 10 PASS students who recently volunteered at the Marrickville Public School Athletics Carnival.

Following the event, MHS received wonderful feedback from MPS, who praised our students for the positive way they represented the school throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to help made a valuable contribution to the success of the carnival.

Thank you to Marrickville Public School for the opportunity, and congratulations to our students on being such outstanding ambassadors for MHS. 💙💛

On Friday 5 June, students from Years 8 to 12 at Marrickville High School took part in the UNSW Mathematics Competition. Over three hours, students tackled six challenging questions, each reflecting a high level of mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.

This experience supports Marrickville High School's focus on High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), encouraging students to extend themselves and embrace academic challenges. Participating in competitions like this provides valuable opportunities for extension, allowing students to apply their knowledge in new ways and develop resilience through rigorous tasks.

We are proud of everyone who accepted this challenge and represented our school. Well done to all involved.

Robotics Club is heading to RoboCup!

Our students are busy designing, building and testing robots as we prepare to compete in RoboCup this July — and for the first time, we are entering multiple events!

🎭 OnStage: Students are creating a robot performance set to a 2-minute piece of music.

⚽ Robot Soccer: Students are designing and building robots to compete against other schools and score as many goals as possible.

🚨 Rescue Line: Students are programming robots to navigate a maze completely independently — no controllers allowed!

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, teamwork and problem-solving our Robotics Club students are showing, and we cannot wait to see what they come up with for RoboCup.

Students interested in joining the fun are encouraged to speak with Mr Penman from Mathematics.

Spin, test, improve! 🎯

Our Year 9 iSTEM students have been designing and 3D printing their own spinning tops, then putting them to the test by timing how long they spin. Using their results, students are learning how design choices can affect performance through a hands-on mix of physics, engineering and creative problem-solving. We can't wait to see which spinning top spins the longest.
