Folks, a number of residents have commented to me about not knowing the profile of candidates. I alert them to the Express and Kuranda papers. I also refer them to the MSC’s page where they list the 5 candidates and their profiles. If you want to know more then follow the link. The Express and Kuranda papers will also have articles in the coming week.

The Mareeba Shire By-election is Saturday, 5 April 2025.

This is a postal by-election. Voters will receive a ballot to their postal address.

Mareeba Shire Council has a total of seven Councillors, including Mayor Angela Toppin, Deputy Mayor Cr Lenore Wyatt, Cr Amy Braes, Cr Nipper Brown, Cr Ross Cardillo and Cr Mary Graham.

The purpose of this by-election is to fill the vacancy following the passing of Cr Kevin Davies. Mareeba Shire residents will be voting to fill one Councillor position at this by-election.

All elections in Australia are compulsory.

The photos and information have been supplied by the candidates and the order of candidates is randomised each day of the working week.

Your ballot paper for the full postal Mareeba Shire Council by-election has been mailed to you.

➡️ How to complete a postal vote
Once your postal vote arrives in the mail, complete the following steps:

1. Open and read the instructions on your ballot paper. Detach the ballot paper from the declaration envelope and then complete your vote. You can do this as soon as you receive it in the mail.
2. Then, fold your ballot paper/s in half, place into the declaration envelope and seal it.
3. Sign the declaration envelope where it says You sign here. Have a witness sign where it says Your witness signs here.
4. Put your sealed and signed declaration envelope into the reply-paid envelope.
5. Post the reply-paid envelope as soon as you can.

Remember you MUST complete your postal vote before 6pm on election day, Saturday 5 April 2025.

Votes must be received by the Electoral Commission of Queensland within 10 days (5pm Tuesday 15 April 2025) after election day to be included in the count. If a vote is received AFTER the deadline, it can’t be included. The counting of all votes begins after 6pm on election day.

Today was a busy day with placing coreflutes around parts of our great shire. More to happen tomorrow and then job is done and dusted. Allen's 4x4 Accessories made some great stick on signage for some of our busses servicing schools. Keep an eye out for these over the next few weeks. Postal votes will soon be mailed out to all on the electoral role within the shire. Please comply with instructions as provided by the ECQ for your vote to be counted. No rest for the wicket today. After the ballot draw for the MSC by-election it was time to erect a few coreflute signs in the light rain. I achieved that with the help of Darren Alston and Kalyca Hendren. A big thanks to Salvatore Girgenti.
