Today was pretty special at the AYAH.

Sammy is 29 and has had to fight harder than most, enduring 39 life-threatening surgeries over her lifetime, including multiple brain and heart operations.

Through all the tough days and hospital stints, music has been her constant.

She’s been in the audience of The Voice cheering on Guy Sebastian plenty of times, but always dreamed of meeting him face-to-face.

Today, Sammy had no idea her dream was about to come true.

Thanks to one of our wonderful volunteers Katy and her good friend Mel who had previously worked alongside Guy, we were able to reach out to Guy with this special request. He didn't hesitate and came out to Manly to completely surprise Sammy.

He spent unhurried time with Sammy, chatting, sharing a laugh, and before long, the two of them were singing together. It was effortless, generous, and meant the absolute world to Sammy and her family. It's a moment we will never forget.

A massive thank you to Guy for giving his time so freely, and to everyone who helped make it happen. Moments like this are what AYAH is all about. 💙🎶

Yesterday, the AYAH team and friends took on the Beach2Beach event. It was such a great chance for everyone to get out in the sunshine, catch up outside of work, and be part of such a wonderful community morning.

The real stars of the day, though? Our therapy and staff dogs, who definitely stole the show (and kept everyone going to the finish line) 🐾

Huge thanks to everyone who came along, cheered us on, or took part!

Every stay at the AYAH is unique, personal, and centred around creating moments of joy. We recently loved having Daisy stay with us for respite.

Between holding the title of our reigning UNO champion (tracked proudly on the wall), having a milkshake at the at The Boathouse, and baking delicious cupcakes for the team with our resident expert Joey, there was never a dull moment.

We even wrapped up her time with a fabulous ""Festival of Daisy", complete with lots of karaoke and laughs.

Stays at the AYAH are peaceful, tailored, and full of heart - thank you for bringing so much sunshine, Daisy! 🌸✨

Peace, love, and karaoke. ✌️🕶️

This week, our wonderful volunteer Joni had the brilliant idea to throw a 70s party for our patient, Daisy. Why? Honestly... just because!

Flares were out, bright colours were on, retro sunnies were everywhere, and the staff and patients had the best time on the karaoke mic. An unforgettable day for everyone involved. 🎤🕺

Nothing was going to stop Sammy from making the game. 🏉✨

Battling complications from Cystic Fibrosis, Sammy temporarily stepped away from John Hunter Hospital last Friday to watch her Sydney Roosters take on the Newcastle Knights right in her hometown.

Thanks to gifted tickets from the Roosters community team, she witnessed an epic win - including a 3-try performance by her favourite player, James Tedesco!

To top off an unforgettable night, Connor Watson spotted Sammy in the stands and ran over to hand-deliver his signed boots, fulfilling a promise he made when they first met.

This is what community is all about. Huge thanks to the Roosters for creating a memory Sammy will treasure forever. ❤️

Great food, great company, and a full dining room! 🎄✨

Today was our annual Christmas in July lunch for our staff and staying patients. 🎄✨
We were so glad to welcome the Bear Cottage team to join us in celebrating while they’re staying with us at AYAH during their facility renovations!

Everyone brought in their own signature dishes, and a huge thank you goes to Pradeep, Phil, and Peng for hosting us so warmly and cooking up an amazing spread of ham, chicken, and sides.

Sharing a meal and plenty of laughs with our patients, staff, and the Bear Cottage team made today truly memorable. Thank you to everyone who contributed! ❤️

A huge thank you to the team from Bushlink for all their hard work at AYAH! 🌿

The crew did a fantastic job tackling our overgrown bushes and shrubs, working with outstanding professionalism and enthusiasm. They even joined Chef Phil for lunch!

We highly recommend Bushlink’s services and look forward to welcoming them back in the future.

Big thanks to the Knitters and Natters of Watermark at Harbord Diggers! 🧶❤️

They recently dropped off an incredible delivery of handmade items for our patients -from cozy blankets, beanies, and scarves to sensory caterpillars, fidget gloves, and teddy bears.

By working closely with our team, they created items that don't just look great, but bring genuine comfort, focus, and joy to the young people in our care.

Thank you, Knitters and Natters! Your talent and generosity mean the absolute world to us.

🎄 A Festive Surprise ❤️

One of our patients recently used his communication device to share a special memory - the word "present."

He was remembering a gift he received during his last stay with us, which happened to fall during our Christmas in July celebrations.

To bring that exact magic back for him, our team threw a surprise Christmas-themed afternoon. Staff went all out dressing up in festive outfits, Therapy Dog Mason included, to hand-deliver special gifts donated by our wonderful community to patients. The entire room was filled with joy, festive vibes, and the sound of Christmas carols. Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces was the absolute best gift of all. 🌟
