Hi Everyone
Just wanting to express my opinion that today was an extraordinary and truly momentous occasion and I would even venture to say, unparalleled in Council history! There were, I think, 15 individuals who made presentations to Council in regard to rezoning of green space at 3 locations. South Durras, Malua Bay and Broulee. At the end of the very impressive array of presentations the Mayor asked for a brief recess.
When the meeting resumed, the Agenda was rearranged to bring the vote on rezoning to the fore. The Council then voted to proceed with the rezoning proposal but to exclude the 3 areas which had been addressed by the presentations (in other words, had Brett not made his presentation, our precious piece of land would have been included in the re-zoning!)
What was extraordinary (apart from Brett and Cathy’s presentation) was the fact that the Council then went on to apologise to the Community for the pain and heartache that they had been put through over the past 5 years whilst also acknowledging the extraordinary effort that had been expended in putting together all the submissions and presentations etc over that time.
They also acknowledged that now they were finally listening and taking on board the wishes of the Community. Let’s hope that continues!
Credit must go to the Mayor, Matt Hatcher and Councillors for listening and taking on board the requests of the community.
