Pinnacle Consulting acted as lead consultants for a large-scale developments in north Queensland, including a 57,000 Ha operation on the Gilbert River for Broadscale Cropping. This application was the first of its kind in Queensland for High-value Agriculture under the Vegetation Management Framework Amendment Act 2013. These changes allow an application to be made for clearing to establish, cultivate and harvest crops in both dry-land and irrigated conditions. The application area was determined according to the Department of Natural Resources Criteria and approved subject to the recommendations of the Pinnacle Pocket Consulting report. Peter Spies is a qualified Agronomist and Land Resource Officer, specialising in property-scale mapping and identification of Good Quality Agricultural Land; Land systems, Soil erosion, Salinity, Sodicity, Agricultural Suitability and Grazing Land Management. soils mapping, vegetation identification, land systems, cropping suitability, Grazing Land management, grazing programs and cattle husbandry. Peter has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Rural Technology and an Assoc. Diploma of Applied Science in Agronomy (UQG) and was previously employed in State Government for over 14 years with DNRM and DPI in Land Management. Peter hails from the Darling Downs, however, has lived on the Atherton Tablelands since 2000. Peter was previously employed in State Government for over 14 years with DNRM and DPI in North and Central Queensland in Vegetation Management, as a Soil Conservation Officer in the Central Highlands, Grazing Land Management and Agricultural Extension. He has been a Land Management Consultant for 9 years, and has conducted soils surveys on over 140,000Ha. Peter has liaised extensively between government, non-government organizations and the community, has written policy advice and extension material for land managers. He has been published several times including Senior Author of the National Case Studies Manual on Control of Prickly Acacia and several DNRM factsheets. In his spare time Peter breeds Senepol and Senepol / Droughtmaster Composite cattle on the Atherton Tablelands and is involved with several industry groups, providing technical advice, and has been a Director on Agforce Cattle, North Region Executive and a member of the Vegetation Management and Reef Policy committees. He is currently a director on the Australian Senepol Cattle Breeders Assn.
