This week is National Reconciliation Week, with theme, All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.
In recognition of National Reconciliation Week, we will be celebrating Nharangga warra Narungga language!
Narungga language is tens of thousands of years old, and during colonisation, Narungga and Aboriginal words were used to name 11 of our 19 Hundreds (land administration divisions). These Hundreds were all named between 1869 and 1887, and include Garrdibi (Carribie), Coonarie, Garrdimalga (Curramulka), Gudliwardi (Koolywurtie), Minalgawi (Minlacowie), Murawi (Moorowie), Maluwardi (Muloowurtie), Para Wurlie, Dhibara (Tiparra), Warrinbin (Warrenbren), and Waraldi (Wauraltee).
In addition to Hundreds, many of our towns and land features were named with Narungga words. Over this week, we will share some of the meanings of these place names.

Today is National Sorry Day โ€“ an important day of reflection, healing and acknowledgement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly members of the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. ๐Ÿ’œ
Represented by the native purple hibiscus, or desert rose, the colour purple was chosen by Stolen Generations survivors as a symbol of resilience, strength and healing.
This yearโ€™s theme, โ€˜From Sorry to Actionโ€™, reminds us that while acknowledging the past is important, meaningful action is needed to support healing, justice and reconciliation.
Twenty-nine years ago, the landmark Bringing Them Home report shared the stories and experiences of the Stolen Generations with the nation and made recommendations to address the ongoing impacts of past government policies. Many of those actions are still yet to be realised.
National Sorry Day provides an opportunity for communities across Australia to come together, reflect on our shared history and continue working towards a more just and respectful future for all.

The SA Public Health Act 2011 requires councils to develop Regional Public Health Plans which consider issues identified in the State Public Health Plan and respond to local community needs and priorities.

Public health is not healthcare or health services โ€“ hospitals, doctors, or aged care facilities.

Public health is about promoting health and wellbeing, including mental health, preventing illness, and protecting communities from environmental risks.
Councils support public health by providing open space, sport and recreation facilities and community facilities, events and programs that support wellbeing.
Share your ideas about what supports a healthy community and what you would like Councils to focus on in the future.
๐Ÿ“ Community workshops:
โ€ข Port Broughton Council Chamber โ€” Tuesday 26 May, 4.30pm-6pm
โ€ข Kadina Community Library โ€” Wednesday 27 May, 10am-11.30am
โ€ข Minlaton Town Hall (Main Hall) โ€” Wednesday 27 May, 3pm-4.30pm

What matters most to you about public health in your community? ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ’ฌ

The Councils of Barunga West, Copper Coast and Yorke Peninsula are reviewing the Yorke Peninsula Region Public Health Plan, which will help guide Council actions over the next five years โ€” and we want to hear from you.

Share your ideas about what supports a healthy community and what you would like Councils to focus on in the future.

Planning a visit to the Vietnam War Memorial Walk?
Council has made access even easier with a new dedicated carpark located just outside of Coobowie, with entry off the St Vincent Highway.
The new carpark allows visitors to drive in one end and out the other, or safely complete turn and exit the same way they entered. It is also large enough to accommodate buses.
Located near the Honour Boards, itโ€™s the perfect place to start or finish your visit to the Memorial Walk.
