Today Friday 29th May 2026, our community will come together to take a stand against Domestic and Family Violence.

Students, community members, service providers, emergency services, local leaders, and families will gather at 11:30am at the Mackay Regional Council car park on River Street, opposite St Patrick's College, before marching to Bluewater Quay.

Last year, more than 1,000 people participated. This year, we are expecting approximately 1,500 people to walk together and send a clear message that violence has no place in our homes, relationships, or community.

This event is about more than a march. It is about creating awareness, encouraging conversations, supporting those affected by violence, and promoting healthy relationships across our region.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Date: Friday 29 May 2026
Gather: 11:30am
Location: Mackay Regional Council car park, River Street
March Commences: 12:00pm
Destination: Bluewater Quay

Following the formal proceedings, community members will have the opportunity to connect with local support services and organisations, with a complimentary Rotary sausage sizzle available.

Whether you walk, listen, learn, or simply stand alongside others, your presence helps demonstrate that our community cares and that safer futures are everyone's responsibility.

A foundation of gratitude, creating a level playing field, and spiritual understanding are some of the key foundations of healing and growth.

I had a great podcast conversation with on leadership and family. One of the greatest pieces of advice I ever had on leadership, including self leadership, is not trying to manage everyone else, but self leadership and helping others with the type of leadership that goes beyond to serve others and not just yourself. This lesson can be carried over into every area of life, work, social, and family life.

For DV Awareness Month this May, Reconcile Life is putting out a simple challenge.

Put the phone down and give someone your full attention.

That’s it.

No cost. No sign-up. No reward. Just real connection.

Have a coffee. Share a meal. Take a walk. Sit down and have the conversation. No scrolling, no notifications, no distractions.

The No Phone Zone Challenge is about something simple that often gets overlooked, healthy relationships are built in small moments of presence, not just big moments of crisis.

This month, tag the person or people you want to do the challenge with and make time for one genuine moment of connection.

And the best part is, it doesn’t have to end in May.

Start the challenge now. Carry the habit forward.

No Phone Zone. Because respect starts with presence.

Today, we honour one of the great steady voices behind some of our most important work of Reconcile Life, Uncle Albert “Butch” Lingwoodock.

For many years, Uncle Butch has stood beside Reconcile Life with unwavering support, quiet strength, and a deep commitment to seeing men and families heal. Since our earliest beginnings, his presence has been constant. His encouragement has been steady. His love for community has been evident in every conversation, every moment of wisdom, and every act of support he has so freely given.

As we move toward Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May, we recognise that meaningful behavioural change is not built on words alone. It is shaped by men like Uncle Butch, men whose lived experience, consistency, humility, and care help light the path forward for others.

He has been more than a supporter of this work. He has been a trusted elder, a source of joy, a voice of wisdom, and a reminder that real change begins with steady men who choose to lead with truth, strength, and heart. He has also in many ways inspired and helped guide me through his actions and commitment to his community.

Today, we give honour where honour is due.

Thank you, Uncle Butch, for your guidance, your belief in this work, and your unwavering commitment to the people we serve. Your presence has helped shape the hearts of many men seeking real change through Reconcile Life, and your contribution is deeply valued.

Happy Birthday, Uncle Butch.
May you be blessed with many more years to come, and may the strength, wisdom, and encouragement you have given so freely return to you in full.

We fill in the gaps more than we realise.
A moment happens

We don’t have all the facts

So we create a story.
And sometimes we get it completely wrong.
Stay grounded.
Stay curious.
Don’t build a story where you don’t have the facts.
