We are one of Australia’s largest port authorities by tonnage throughput and more than half of Queensland's trade, by tonnage, pass through our ports. The port facilities we manage are vital to the export and import performance of Queensland and Australia. Our ports handle bulk shipments of coal, bauxite, sand, sugar, grain, petroleum and general cargo. We are dedicated to healthy port environment

s and our strict environmental management has gone hand in hand with a significant contribution to the economy. Our environmental management plans for all four ports are internationally accredited AS/NZS ISO 14001 which demonstrates thorough environmental performance and our commitment to environmental management. As a port authority, NQBP is responsible for:
• strategic port planning
• port business development
• port infrastructure development
• environmental management and marine pollution (within port limits)
• port security and safety
• port efficiency
• port pilotage at Mackay and Hay Point
• maintaining navigable port depths for shipping
• issuing licences, leases and permits to other organisations for use of port land, infrastructure, and facilities.

👏 Well done to all the runners (and walkers) who participated in the Mackay Marina Run on Sunday.

Shout out to the more than 30 NQBP staff members and their families who took part to help raise money for the Leukemia Foundation.

At first glance, they're just tracks in the mud 👀.

Look closer and you'll find evidence of dugongs feeding on seagrass meadows, one of the many important habitats that support marine life along our coast.

These underwater meadows provide food and shelter for dugongs, marine turtles, fish and prawns.

Each year, we work with researchers from James Cook University's TropWATER to monitor more than 30,000 hectares of seagrass across our ports. The long-term data helps us understand the conditions of these ecosystems and how they change over time.

Today is and we're recognising the importance of healthy seagrass meadows and the marine life that depends on them.

We ❤️ love North Wall!

Queensland Day’s top beaches list gave the honours to Mooloolaba Beach, Noosa Main Beach and Whitehaven Beach but around here, North Wall will always be number one.

Since opening the new North Wall Recreational Area, it has become an iconic spot for locals to relax, surf, take in the views and enjoy the Mackay coastline.

The breakwater will be temporarily closed from early hours of Saturday 6 June until around midday Sunday 7 June for the Mackay Marina Run.

We’re proud to support community events like these and provide participants with safe access to the breakwater.
