Another block of Certificate III in Emergency Response training has officially been completed! ✅👏

Over the course of the training, the crew tackled plenty of practical scenarios, built on their emergency response skills, and put their teamwork to the test. 💪🚒

🌿 What an incredible weekend! 🌿

Our team had an amazing few days at Blackdown Tablelands for our Personal Development Weekend.

A special thank you to our Emergency Response Trainer, Pat Glynn, who led the activities and shared valuable knowledge and practical skills from the recent Blue Mountains Remote Vertical Rescue Workshop.

The weekend gave us the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, challenge ourselves, strengthen our teamwork, and enjoy the incredible surroundings. From the laughs around the campfire to meaningful conversations and hands-on activities, it was a weekend filled with learning, personal growth, and lasting memories.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended. Your enthusiasm, positive attitude, and willingness to get involved made the weekend such a success. It was fantastic to see everyone supporting one another and embracing every challenge along the way.

We’re looking forward to continuing to grow together as a team and putting what we’ve learned into practice back in the workplace.

We currently have positions available for ERT/Operators with a loader qualification for a client based about 2 1/2 hours from Mackay. The position details are:

• Early August start
• 7/7 roster, days and nights
• Meals and camp accommodation provided
• FIFO Brisbane/Mackay or DIDO with travel payments
• 13.25-hour shifts (to allow for hotseat). All work hours paid.
• Hourly rate from $70, plus super, Coal LSL

1 x dayshift prior to your first dayshift rotation every 6 weeks you will be required for ERT skills maintenance training in Mackay (this will be an 8-day block that swing). I.e. an 8 day block every six weeks. These hours are also paid.

🚒🚑 First Responders Day 🚑🚒

Today, we simply want to say thank you.

Thank you to the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, emergency service volunteers, rescue personnel, and all first responders who step forward when others need help the most.

While many people are running from danger, you are running towards it. You answer calls at all hours, face difficult situations, and provide comfort, care, and hope during some of the toughest moments in people's lives.

At AMAST Safety & Rescue, we are fortunate to work with many incredible first responders. They are not only members of our team but also members of our communities. People who quietly dedicate themselves to serving others, often without recognition.

To our trainers, emergency response personnel, and all of our staff who continue to serve as firefighters, paramedics, and emergency responders: we are proud of you and grateful for everything you do.

Today, we honour your commitment, your compassion, and your willingness to put others before yourselves.

🔥 Fun Fact Friday 🔥

Why are Dalmatians known as the “firehouse dogs”? 🚒🐾

Back in the old days of horse-drawn fire carriages, Dalmatians were the ultimate crew members. They naturally got along with horses and were trained to run alongside the carriages—helping calm the horses, clear the path, and guard the equipment while firefighters handled emergencies.

Their loyalty, energy, and protective instincts made them perfect partners on the job. Over time, they became a proud symbol of fire services around the world.

So next time you see a Dalmatian, remember—they’ve got a long history of running toward the action, not away from it. 🔥🐶

Is it knot right or not right?

The photo shows three different Figure of 8 on the bight knots. While the route of the rope through each of the knots is correct, the finishing of the knot varies between all three. The knot on the left is how I was taught to tie the knot many years ago and is still my go-to. I still use a barrel knot to finish it off, make it nice and neat, and just have that little redundancy, and if anyone clips a carabiner into the space between the 8 and the barrel (a common reason why some people say it shouldn’t be there), they shouldn’t be allowed near rope.
The knot in the centre is how I was taught when I did rope access training, as opposed to the way I learnt with rescue. The tail does not contain a barrel knot and is left around 150mm long. I don’t have an issue with this either, so long as the knot is tied and packed correctly, and if this is completed then the knot shouldn’t slip.
One thing for certain though, while the knots on the left are acceptable, my students know that if they present me with the garbage on the right, they will be retying it 😉😂.
Now I’ll wait for them to zoom in and try and pick the faults. I’m running my own little sweep on who will be first 😜
