District Council of Loxton Waikerie

District Council of Loxton Waikerie The District Council of Loxton Waikerie is located in the Riverland of SA. Please contact us via 08 8584 8000 to discuss any matters.

DCLW recognises this platform as an information source to community, rather than a two-way communication avenue. The District Council of Loxton Waikerie is located in the Riverland of South Australia. It serves a population of approximately 11,700 people and covers a vast area of almost 8,000 square kilometres, from the Blanchetown Bridge to the Victorian border and from the Murray River to the Ma

llee. The townships of Loxton and Waikerie are the main service centres for the Council district and it also contains smaller towns and communities of Moorook, Kingston on Murray and various other outlying areas. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy with the district contributing significantly to the national output of food and beverage of the nation. Predominant crops include grapes and citrus, and also includes nuts (in particular almonds), berries and other ranges of fruit and vegetables. There is also a significant dryland farming contingent producing cereals, wool and meat. Tourism is also an important part of the local economy and all visitors are welcome to visit us and enjoy the River and other local attractions.

The Loxton North Recreation Grounds is hosting Rural Aid volunteers from 30 May to 6 June, with approximately 20โ€“25 caravans on site during this period.

Rural Aid volunteers travel across Australia supporting primary producers and rural communities impacted by natural disasters and challenging conditions. Their Farm Recovery Team assists with practical on-farm tasks including fencing repairs, clearing fallen trees, general clean-ups, garden maintenance and more - helping local producers tackle jobs that often get pushed aside during difficult times.

Rural Aid is also exploring the opportunity to host a Farm Recovery Event in Loxton in 2026 to further support local primary producers.
