Flood warnings are issued by the Bureau of Meteorology to warn the community of possible riverine flooding.

VICSES then turn them into community/township specific warnings on VicEmergency with clear action statements on what to do.

Here’s a quick summary on each level of Bureau issued flood warnings, so you know how to act if impacted by a flood emergency in your area.

During any emergency, it’s important not to rely on only one source of information. Monitor the VicEmergency app and tune in to your local emergency radio and television broadcasters.

Reminder for tomorrow! ⬇️

AusAlert is being tested in Geelong, Victoria at 2:00 pm tomorrow afternoon. ⚠️

Here’s what you need to know. 👇

A test AusAlert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in the Belmont and Highton area of City of Greater Geelong at around 2:00 pm on Thursday 18 June 2026.

If you are near the test area with a compatible mobile device, you may receive the alert. 📱

Devices may vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. An AusAlert may appear on your device screen. It will clearly say it is a test. You don't need to do anything.

There will also be a national test on Monday 27 July 2026, at around 2:00 pm AEST. AusAlerts will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia.

Ensure you can receive AusAlerts by installing the latest software update and restarting your device. Updates also fix bugs, improve performance and may boost battery life. ✅

You can find more information about what the test will look like, and how an AusAlert will appear on your device at: https://www.ausalert.gov.au/alerts-explained/community-testing

Congratulations to VICSES Corio volunteers Alex and Narelle who completed the Safe Working At Heights (SWAHs) course over the weekend!

Alongside members from nine surrounding units, they now have the skills to use our rope system to safety undertake temporary emergency building repairs on roofs or at height.

Well done to all the course participants 👏

If you’re out on the road over the King’s Birthday long weekend, instead of pushing on when you’re feeling tired, pull over and take a power nap. 🚗

Yawning, rubbing your eyes and feeling restless while driving are all signs of fatigue, which can lead to serious road incidents.

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used in emergencies across Australia from October 2026.

As part of the rollout, there will be testing across Australia - including Geelong.

📣At 2:00 pm on Thursday 18 June 2026, AusAlert community testing is happening in Highton and Belmont. If you’re in this location or the Geelong area at the time of the test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone, tablet or smart watch.

➡️ The AusAlert test will be a Priority Alert. It will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that last about 10 seconds.

➡️AusAlert will appear as a notification on your device screen (not a text message).

➡️ If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

This will only be a test so you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and
others safe.
