A Bit of History about the Lockwood Fire Brigade

The Lockwood Township was gazetted for approval on 12th July 1853. Lockwood is 14km south of Bendigo, near the road intersect of the Bendigo / Maryborough Rd and Calder Alternative Hwy. Lockwood South Rural Fire Brigade was established in 1950. The initial brigade response appliance was the Isuzu 3.4D tanker. In April 1998, a motion was passed at

a brigade meeting to change the name from ‘Lockwood South Rural Fire Brigade’ to ‘Lockwood Fire Brigade’. Lockwood Fire Brigade received a grant in 2002 from the City of Greater Bendigo for a BBQ trailer which has since been a great asset to the community and fundraising efforts of the brigade. By 2004, with many sausages being cooked on the brigade’s new BBQ trailer, great support and generous donations from the local community, Lockwood Fire Brigade was able to purchase a new Ford Courier Ute. This new appliance became known as the Lockwood Support unit and was welcomed as a very useful asset for the community. It was late 2004 that building begun on the new and current station at Crusoe Road which was completed in 2005. In 2010 we traded in our Isuzu 3.4D for a brand new Dual Cab Hino 3.4C Heavy Tanker known as Lockwood Tanker 1, which is still in use today. On the 12th September 2010, Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron handed over the keys to our new Isuzu 1.2.4D Light Tanker, known as Lockwood Tanker 2.

One of our new recruits, Jordie Hutton is well on his way to completing the foundation skills. Today was all about working with the hoses and branch patterns etc. Thanks to the brigade members turning out to help.

Probably not what Michael Ferguson, our recently qualified operational member of our Brigade, expected for his first turnout. We really appreciated your help with this challenging situation. (This wasn’t in the training manual 😉) Congratulations.

Early this morning we were called out 🚒 to a reignited bonfire heap. The bonfire was last lit in August and thought to be out, however it retained enough heat, coupled with the recent hot days to get going again. 📣A good reminder for everyone to be doubly sure their burnoffs are completely out.

Thanks to support provided by Marong Fire Brigade - CFA and Kangaroo Flat Fire Brigade. Also thanks to the passer by who called this in👍. The fire was well back off the road and difficult to spot.

The recent fire activity in Harcourt and surrounding areas has generated large amounts of smoke which may be visible to nearby residents.

Fire damaged trees remain a serious hazard in the burnt area and crews are still undertaking assessments.
Trees or limbs may fall without warning

There still may be smoke visible, especially from Mount Alexander Regional Park.

There will be hot spots within the burnt area for a period of time. If you see trees or stumps burning within the burnt area, there is no need to call 000. If you see fire outside of the burnt area or on the roadside or if you are concerned, call 000.

There are crews monitoring the burnt area and will call for assistance as needed.
