🚨 Fire Australia 2026 🚨

On the 6th and 7th of May, the team from HOF Fire & Security attended Fire Australia Conference and Tradeshow 2026, including the Fire Australia Gala Dinner and Awards Night.

While we unfortunately didn’t take home the award for Fire Protection Project of the Year, being recognised as a finalist amongst some of the best projects in the country was still an incredible achievement for our team and something we are extremely proud of.

The event was a great opportunity to connect with others across the industry, explore emerging technologies, discuss compliance changes, and continue building our knowledge across fire protection and integrated security systems.

It was also good to see a few lighter moments throughout the week as the boys tested out some “new protective equipment” on the tradeshow floor 🛡️😂

A huge thank you to our staff, suppliers, clients, and industry partners for their continued support. Recognition at this level reflects the hard work our entire team puts in every day across Northern NSW.

Congratulations to all finalists and winners across the awards night.

🎬🔥 Industry Recognition for Lismore Cinemas Project 🔥🎬

We’re proud to share that HOF Fire & Security has been nominated for Fire Protection Project of the Year at the 2026 Fire Protection Industry Awards — for our work on the Lismore Cinemas redevelopment.

This project means a lot to us.

After the devastation of the 2022 floods, the rebuild of Lismore Cinemas was a significant milestone for the community, with works completed in late 2025. We were engaged to deliver a compliant, reliable fire detection and EWIS system under complex and evolving site conditions.

From design coordination through to installation and commissioning, our focus was simple — get it right, ensure compliance, and support the successful reopening of an important local venue.

This nomination reflects the effort of our team on the ground and the collaboration across the project.

Proud to have played a part in bringing Lismore Cinemas back.

We’ll see you in Melbourne. 👊

🚒 Hydrant System Testing – AS1851-2012 Compliance 🚒

At HOF Fire & Security, we carry out fire hydrant system testing strictly in accordance with AS1851-2012, ensuring your building’s first line of defence is ready when it matters most.

🔧 Annual Hydrant Flow Testing

Verifies flow rates and pressures at hydrants and hose reels

Confirms valves, pipework and booster connections are operating correctly

Identifies blockages, valve issues, or performance losses early

Required every 12 months to maintain compliance and reliability

💧 Five-Yearly Hydrant Flow & Performance Testing

Full system flow testing to confirm the hydrant network meets design performance requirements

Assesses underground mains, pipe sizing, friction loss and overall system capability

Critical for long-term assurance that the system will support fire brigade operations

Mandatory every 5 years under AS1851-2012

⚠️ Why it matters
Failure to carry out these tests can lead to:

Non-compliance with statutory obligations

Increased risk during a fire event

Insurance complications

Serious safety consequences for occupants and firefighters

✅ Why choose HOF Fire & Security?

Fully compliant AS1851-2012 testing and reporting

Clear defect identification and practical rectification advice

Experienced technicians with local knowledge

Detailed records to support audits and compliance

🔥 Understanding Fire System Defects — What You Need to Know 🔥

When it comes to fire protection systems, not all defects are the same — and it’s important to know how they’re classified under AS1851-2012 and NSW Fire Safety Regulations 👇

🔴 Critical Defect
A fault that immediately renders the entire system inoperative.
➡️ Example: A non-functional Fire Indicator Panel or failed pumpset.
These must be repaired immediately to restore system functionality and ensure life safety.

🟠 Non-Critical Defect
A fault that doesn’t stop the system from operating but still requires prompt repair.
➡️ Example: A faulty detector head or failed emergency light fitting.
These must be rectified before the next annual condition report to remain compliant with AS1851-2012.

⚪ Non-Conformance
An issue with the design, layout, or performance of the system.
➡️ Example: Missing block plans or no baseline data.
These should be reviewed and addressed as soon as possible to bring the system up to code and maintain compliance with the Environmental Planning & Assessment Regulation 2021 (NSW).

💡 Our Recommendation:
While the standard allows up until the next annual condition report for rectification of non-critical defects and non-conformances, we strongly recommend addressing them as soon as possible.
Delaying repairs can lead to:

🔹 Increased risk to occupants and property in the event of fire

🔹 Non-compliance with NSW law and potential AFSS (Annual Fire Safety Statement) issues

🔹 Higher rectification costs if minor issues worsen over time

🔹 Insurance complications if the system is found non-operational during an incident

At HOF Fire & Security, we work closely with our clients to prioritise and rectify defects quickly, ensuring every system is maintained to standard, fully operational, and ready to protect when needed.
