Team Majam

Team Majam This is a primary school project team aiming to save the world!

Hi there!
We are Team Majam, a group of five Yr 6’s from across the state, who decided to tackle a problem that affected our local areas, which had been effected by floods, bush-fire and other natural disasters.
We wanted to work out how you can ensure communities who have been affected by natural disasters have access to healthy food, quickly.

We came up with the idea of creating a fleet of semi-trailers/trucks that act as pantries/community kitchens and fresh gardens. The trucks would have built-in kitchens, gardens, ready grown plants and a supply of healthy food to deliver to communities affected by natural disasters. The kitchen facilities, equipment and appliances would be used by the communities that had lost their own, if they wanted to.

This would hopefully benefit the community as it would not only create a supply of fresh, healthy food, but it would bring everyone in the community together, help with people’s mental health, provide a social hub AND brings green into places that are brown and black. It would also hopefully bring back a sense of normality.

The fleet would be sustainable (solar panel run) and quick as they drive straight to the disaster site. When not needed, the fleet can be stationed at homeless shelters to help them too. This would also increase jobs so people who have lost their businesses and work can find an income, as caretakers, stockers, and cleaners of the trucks. The fleet would also support farmers and local/small businesses as they would buy their produce.

Our idea will hopefully help encourage people to eat more healthy fresh food because without a kitchen many people during the floods were limited to fast food/whatever food they could get. It will provide a variety of meals and hopefully improve well-being.
It would help affected families to have a balanced diet (to help reduce tiredness, stress, and other affects that happen if you can't eat a healthy diet). It could also encourage people to eat meals with people in their community, getting to know more people and the community could even set up a roster of who cooks on each night and everyone eats the same meal, together. People could even learn how to cook new things!

We entered our idea into a State-wide competition called the Game-Changer Challenge and our idea has made it to the grand final, which is really exciting. Now we would really like our communities’ feedback on whether our idea would work and whether it would have been helpful to you.

So that is our idea- It would be amazing if you could look at our design and fill out the survey in the link below so we can improve our idea heading into the grand finals. (It only takes a few minutes) Also- if you find this at all triggering or too much please stop.
Thank you!
