Our Year 11 Outdoor Education students took to the water for an action-packed day of canoeing along the Avon River!
Students put their paddling skills to the test while developing their communication, teamwork, navigation and decision-making skills in a real-world outdoor environment. 🛶
From working together in canoes to navigating the river and tackling the challenges along the way, it was a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence and put their Outdoor Education knowledge into practice.
A great day of adventure, teamwork and learning outdoors!

The Intergenerational Storytelling Project for 2026 has come to an official conclusion with the stories being published in a book entitled, Stories Between Us. Volunteers and students, our generous supporters from Kalamunda Rotary and the Kalamunda Branch of the CWA, and Adam Hort MLA, joined together to celebrate the project with a special morning tea. This year’s project was a resounding success and we are already looking forward to our 2027 project.

R U OK? Day is Thursday 10 September, but meaningful conversations and checking in with those around us matter every day.

Sometimes, a simple “Are you OK?” can make a big difference.

Last week, our students came together to organise a wonderful R U OK? Day lunchtime event.
It was fantastic to see our students getting involved, connecting with one another and sharing such an important message — that checking in, listening and supporting each other can make a real difference.

A huge congratulations to Mia as she was named the WA State Cross Country Junior Team Captain at the SSWA team presentation.
She is so excited to have the opportunity to lead the WA Cross Country Team into the National Championships in the next coming weeks! 🌟🌟

Congratulations to all writers who participated in Write a Book in a Day 2026! Teams created excellent stories which will be read by young people in hospitals and raised vital funds for cancer research. It was an amazing effort. Well done, teams! 📚✨

Our Year 10 LEAP students swapped the classroom for Rottnest Island for an action-packed trip filled with adventure, learning and plenty of quokkas!

We biked our way around the island, taking in the incredible scenery before heading out on a tour to discover more about Rottnest’s unique landscape and environment. Students got to see some fascinating sites, including the “poop farm” and desalination plant, and learn about how the island is managed and sustained.

For the brave (and those with a head for heights!), a trip up the lighthouse provided an unforgettable experience. Students learnt about the history of the lighthouse, including how mercury is stored and used, before tackling the very tall climb back down — with more than a few dizzy heads along the way!

Of course, no trip to Rottnest would be complete without quokkas! We spotted plenty of these famous island residents and, naturally, stopped for some photos along the way.

Our learning continued with a walking tour exploring Rottnest’s history, giving students a deeper understanding of the people, places and events that have shaped the island.

When the sun went down, the adventure continued! We headed out on night walks to see the lights of Perth, played volleyball on the beach, and made the most of our time together. Early risers were rewarded with some spectacular sunrises over the ocean.

It was a trip full of new experiences, challenges, laughter and memories — and one that our Year 10 LEAP students won’t be forgetting anytime soon!

Last week our year 11 Politics and Law students were thrilled to participate in a Q&A session with our local state representative for Kalamunda, Mr Adam Hort, MLA. They listened intently to his career journey from local hospitals to Chief Pharmacist of WA, and then being selected by the Liberal Party for the 2025 state election.
Mr Hort enthusiastically and thoughtfully fielded a variety of questions from the students, from his personal experiences running for election, to his opinions on the youth justice system and then to more theoretical debate over parliamentary processes.
His visit was a highlight for the HASS team and we thank Mr Hort for providing his time to inspire the political leaders of the next generation 🌟

Always good to be back at Lesmurdie Senior High School!

I had the chance to speak with the Year 11 Politics and Law ATAR students about life in Parliament, how our political system works and what it’s really like to represent a local community.

There were plenty of thoughtful questions, some great discussion and hopefully a few insights they can take into their studies.

Thanks to the students and teachers for having me along, it was a pleasure to meet you all!
