All Rotarians bring a range of business and professional skills to their clubs as part of service to our community. We look forward to Paul joining us in providing service above self.

We at the Space 47 on Monday 4th May for our meeting. After fellowship at the bar members and guests were called to order, took their places and welcomed our guest speaker for the evening after another lovely meal prepared by the Golf Club Ladies.

Our guest was Nikki Chung, the President of South Coast FM our community radio station based in Wonthaggi, but broadcasting across bass Coast and South Gippsland. Nikki is now Melbourne based and a member of Benteigh Moorabbin Rotary Club where a great deal of her time is taken up with supporting the Australian Vietnamese Women’s Association of which she is also President. While living on the Bass Coast Nikki was a member of Wonthaggi Rotary and served a term as its President.

What is it that Rotary does and why - number 3.
🎨 Leongatha Rotary Art Show – Celebrating 50 Years 🎨

For decades, the Leongatha Rotary Art Show has proudly supported local and emerging artists, including talented young people from across our region, by providing an opportunity to showcase their creativity and passion with the wider community.

Each year, the exhibition gives our community access to an incredible range of high-quality artwork across many styles and mediums. Beyond simply admiring the work on display, the exhibition often inspires others to explore their own creativity and perhaps even begin creating artwork themselves.

Importantly, the Leongatha Rotary Art Show is much more than an exhibition. As a Rotary community event, funds raised are returned directly back into projects and organisations identified as needing support throughout our region. Over the years this has included initiatives such as the Community Kitchen, the Woorayl Lodge expansion project, the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), and many other valuable community causes.

This year marks the 50th Leongatha Rotary Art Show, a significant milestone for an event that has become an important part of our local community calendar. As preparations begin, artists of all ages are encouraged to start thinking about and preparing their works for what promises to be a very special celebration of local creativity and talent.

Artists should keep an eye out over the coming months for entry information, categories, dates, and event announcements as we move closer to this landmark event.

We look forward to once again celebrating the incredible artistic talent within our community. 🖼️

Supporting Local – A Visit to Quirky Bar.

On Tuesday, the Leongatha Rotary Club took a step outside the usual and held our fortnightly meeting at the new Quirky Bar in Leongatha — a small way to show our support for local business.

And what a great choice it was.

Quirky Bar brings something a little different to our town. With its unique style, relaxed atmosphere, and creative drinks, it offers a welcoming space to connect, share ideas, and enjoy good company. It’s exactly the kind of venue that adds character and vibrancy to our local community.
Open from Thursday to Sunday from midday with live music from time to time.
If you have an event you wish to run, contact them to see how they can help create an amazing memory for you.

Our members enjoyed a fantastic evening of conversation, laughter, and connection — proving that sometimes the best meetings happen outside the traditional setting. It provided a warm environment and wonderful food and drink. (For the record, they have over 30 cocktails which are all named around the Quentin Tarantino theme).

Supporting local businesses like Quirky Bar helps strengthen our community, and we’re proud to play a small part in that.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, we encourage you to drop in and experience it for yourself 🍹

- Update on our Community Support work - We had a visit and short talk presented by Rod of Team Santa on his fundraising for the Cancer Council in the Sh*tbox Rally.
Leongatha Rotary will be contributing with a donation to this cause as a part of our community outreach.

Got old glasses sitting in a drawer?

Your unused reading or prescription glasses could make a life-changing difference to someone in need.

Simply drop them off at the Old Fire Station Furniture Store, and they’ll be collected by Rotary Australia and distributed to people around the world who otherwise wouldn’t have access to vision care.

🌏 A small act for you…
✨ A whole new world for someone else.

Hidden Treasure, Real Impact – The Old Fire Station Store

At its heart, Rotary is about people helping people.

As part of a global network of volunteers, Rotary International works tirelessly to create positive change—from local community projects right here in Leongatha to worldwide efforts like the fight to eradicate polio.

At Leongatha Rotary, we bring that mission to life in practical, meaningful ways—and one of the most loved examples is our Old Fire Station Second Hand Store.

This isn’t just a shop—it’s a community hub with purpose.

Inside, you’ll find a wide range of quality, affordable items—from furniture and homewares to books and hidden gems—making it easier for everyone to create a home they love without financial strain.

🕒 Store Opening Hours
• Wednesday: 10.00am – 3:30pm
• Thursday: 10:00 am – 3:30pm
• Friday: 10:00 am – 3:30pm
• Saturday: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

But the real story goes beyond what’s on the shelves.

Because every purchase, every donated item, and every volunteer hour helps us give back to the community in powerful ways.

💛 Supporting those doing it tough
We provide access to affordable, good-quality goods for individuals and families who need a helping hand.

💛 Giving back locally
Funds raised go directly into community initiatives, including the Wednesday Community Lunch at St Peter’s Anglican Church—a weekly gathering offering free, home-cooked meals in a warm, welcoming space built on food, friendship, and connection.

💛 Investing in the next generation
We proudly support local schools, helping create opportunities for students through funding and resources that make a real difference.

How You Can Help

We are always grateful for donations of good-quality items to keep the store thriving.

If you have items to donate, please contact Shirley Seabrook – 0409 622 720.

The store is located at 2 Anderson Street (the Old Fire Station, behind the Post Office).

And if you’d like to learn more about Rotary—or get involved in making a difference in our community—we’d love to hear from you.

Because together, small actions create lasting impact..

03/04/2026

Leongatha Rotary is proud to play a quiet but powerful role in strengthening our community—and we’re excited to start sharing more of that story with you.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be posting regular updates to give you a closer look at what we do, the events we run, and—most importantly—the real impact your support helps create.

To begin, we’re reflecting on the incredible success of our recent Music at Mossvale event, held at the beautiful Mossvale Park. With more than 200 people from across the community in attendance, the day was filled with music, connection, and a genuine sense of togetherness. From start to finish, it was a celebration of everything that makes our community special.

But beyond the music and atmosphere, this event had a purpose.

Thanks to the generosity of those who attended and supported the day, we were able to donate $2,500 to Royal Children’s Hospital—helping support vital care for children and families when they need it most. The remaining funds were directed straight back into our local community, supporting groups and initiatives that make a real difference close to home.

This is what Rotary is all about: bringing people together to create meaningful, lasting impact—both locally and beyond.

We’re always looking for people of all ages who want to get involved, give back, and be part of something bigger. Whether you can contribute time, skills, or simply a willingness to help, there’s a place for you in Rotary.

Stay tuned for more stories about recent events and how your support continues to help those in need.

Neil Travers was our guest speaker for the meeting held on Monday 23rd March. Neil is a member of the Advisory Board of Prom Coast News, the newspaper that has replaced the Foster Mirror. Neil a former journalist and marketing executive spoke about how the Prom Coast community has resurrected their local news paper to fill gap left in the community after the closure of the ‘Mirror’. A very informative talk by Neil and the club very much appreciated him taking time to keep us informed about the resurgence of print media in South Gippsland.
