Legume Community Hall is now a designated Bushfire Place of Last Resort - Neighbourhood Safer Place. The hall is now a place of last resort, where people can shelter during passage of a bush fire front when there is imminent threat and they have no plan, or their planned options are no longer possible to be carried out.
After several years of assessment, planning and completion of works, the application by the Legume Progress Association, the Legume Rural Fire Brigade and Tenterfield Shire Council has been approved by Rural Fire Service.
This is a great outcome for the Legume community. Many thanks to the people who made this happen.

The Bushfire Danger Period for the Northern Tablelands district will end on 31 March 2026. From 1 April fire permits will no longer be required.
The next few months will be a good time to consider fuel reduction burns, although appropriate care and precautions are important. If you are considering lighting a fire this autumn or winter, please note the following requirements:
• Notify the NSW RFS by visiting www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or contacting the Northern Tablelands Fire Control Centre on 02 6739 6900 at least 24 hours before lighting.
•Notify all adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting.
• Check the Fire Danger Rating (FDR) and weather forecast prior to lighting your fire. The BOM phone app is a convenient way to find this information on one site. Delay the burn if concerning winds are forecast.
• Create proper fire breaks and clear around the perimeter of piles of timber.
• Have adequate water resources and firefighting equipment on hand.
• Supervise the fire at all times.
• Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if your fire escapes.

Sunday 8 March is International Women’s Day. We wish to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of the 16 women members of Legume Rural Fire Brigade. Our tireless longstanding President is Val Flint, and 5 of the most recent 10 members to join our Brigade are women.

On Sunday 11 January Legume Rural Fire Brigade held a New Year barbeque at Legume Fire Station. It was a great day for catching up and celebrating the new year with friends.

NOTICE OF FIRE PERMIT SUSPENSION OVER THE CHRISTMAS / NEW YEAR PERIOD: All fire permits within the Northern Tablelands will be suspended from 0001 hours on 23 December to 2359 hours on 2 January (inclusive).
Normal permit operations will resume from 3 January, subject to prevailing weather and fire danger conditions.

PERMITS SUSPENDED.
Due to High Fire Danger Rating, all fire permits in Tenterfield LGA are SUSPENDED from midnight tonight and extending from 24 October through to midnight on 28 October 2025.

All Fire Permits in Tenterfield LGA are suspended for 24 hours from midnight tonight (through Wednesday 22 October 2025) due to High Fire Danger rating.
Due to the current conditions, there is the potential for the suspension to be extended for further days, and an update will be provided tomorrow.

There is a HIGH Fire Danger Rating in the Northern Tablelands for TOMORROW Thursday 2 October due to strong westerly winds. All Fire Permits are SUSPENDED for 24 hours from midnight tonight.
