This Eastern Falsistrelle found at needed some help. So we got it for him.

I got a callout in the morning that an elderly lady had seen a bat land (and stay) on her window sill the previous night. I didn't even need to knock on her door because she was right beside it! Meet "Cilla" the Eastern Falsistrelle.

This cute little forest bat was found at the Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme site office. He was alert but had been clinging to some posters for several days (as they can do this time of year). He came to me for assessment before he was released 3 days later. He was called "Bob" [the greatest pilot in the world] by my partner who once saw Bob Hoover fly at the airfield just down from this location.

Porter the Eastern Falsistrelle was found in a shed at the airport. Despite the indignity of his assessment, he's doing well 🤣✈️🦇

A caring homeowner contacted me when roofers disturbed a microbat colony so... Off I drove and up I went! Three little forest bats were still clinging to the roof beams so I took "Larry, Shirley and Flo" out of harms way and did a quick assessment and check-up before they were released back in the area at dark.

Another release of Houdini's story today.

Another release of Houdini's story today.

They thought it was just a tiny blob inside 🦇

When a child checked the rain gauge, they noticed something stuck at the bottom — and their parents called a professional for help. When Tracey arrived, she carefully got Houdini out and brought him home to recover and regain his strength.

After a few days of rest and feeding, she brought him back to where he was found — and as soon as he got his bearings, he flew off into the night 🖤

"Autumn", a female Gould's Wattled bat was found on the ground under a wheeled skip bin by staff of BWS Legana. She was wet, cold and covered in leaves. No doubt a colony mate of "Romero" recently saved by Cafe Romero

🦇 International Bat Appreciation Day!

We are lucky enough to have 8 different bat species here in Tasmania, all of which are microbats, small insect-eating mammals.

Here are some cool bat facts:
🔊 Bats use echolocation to hunt for insects at night with incredible precision.
🍽 Bats can consume up to half their body weight in insects per night, making them natural pest controllers!
🌏 Bats account for one-fifth of all the mammals in the world.

Bat safety tips:
🙅‍♂️ Never attempt to handle a bat yourself
🐈 Keep pets and people away from bat roosting areas
🦟 Avoid using sticky traps to catch insects. Bats can become stuck, causing severe and often fatal wing damage.

If you find an injured bat call our 24/7 Rescue Service for help on 0447 264 625.

Count Batula, the Lesser Long Eared juvenile male found himself trapped in an outdoor kitchen. While it had lighting to attract insects, (so he was well fed), there were limited water sources and he was alone for several days and therefore without the company of his colony. Long Eared species are quick to pick up self feeding as Count B shows in this video.

Evan the Little forest bat, that was found in a patio umbrella, was released last night and did not one, but three circles around us!
