General information

508 SQN is an Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) Squadron based at Paterson Barracks in Launceston, Tasmania (5WG) In 508 SQN's short history there has been a merger of 2 AAFC squadrons, consisting of 505 SQN and 506 SQN combining to form 508 SQN. 508 Squadron's first Commanding Officer (CO) was FLGOFF(AAFC) Kroon, who lead the merger and created a solid base on which the squadron could flourish into one of the most successful squadrons in 5 Wing. Taking over from FLGOFF(AAFC) Kroon, was FLGOFF(AAFC) Cameron. FLGOFF(AAFC) Cameron took over shortly after the departure of FLGOFF (AAFC) Kroon and lead the squadron for several years. His leadership inspired others and encouraged the squadron to grow further. After the departure of FLGOFF(AAFC) Cameron, 508 SQN was led by two interim CO's, these being FLTLT(AAFC) Johns and SQNLDR Garwood. Through these times of change, the squadron still emerged as a determined unit. WOFF(AAFC) Crans led 508 SQN successfully and with determination, and allowed the youth of Launceston to develop a sense of pride. WOFF(AAFC) Crans led 508 SQN until September 2015, when after 7 years of tireless leadership, she handed over the role of Commanding Officer 508 SQN to A/FLTLT Greg Brydon.
