Tasmanian Institute of Sport The Tasmanian Institute of Sport was established in 1985 by the Tasmanian Government to assist Tasmania's talented athletes achieve excellence in sport.

Our mission is to provide leadership and quality athlete and coaching services to Tasmania’s talented athletes to assist them to compete successfully on the international stage. The Institute has two bases; the Silverdome complex in Prospect, Launceston, which was a purpose built facility and is shared with the northern office of Sport and Recreation Tasmania; and Technopark in Dowsing Point, Hobart.

From a chance roadside sign to the world stage.

Launceston’s Lucas Wang has been selected to represent Australia at the ISSF Junior World Championships in Germany this month.

The 17‑year‑old Newstead College student has already claimed multiple state and national titles and now he’s aiming for a top‑eight finish on debut.

Backed by the TIS, Shooting Australia and his local pistol community, Lucas is chasing the ultimate goal: the Olympic Games.

Applications for the TIS Coaching Centre (TCC) Scholarships are now open.

The TCC offers support for up to six coaches through three scholarship programs, the TIS Coaching Scholarships, Para Coaching Support and the Women in Sport Coaching Scholarships in partnership with Womensport and Recreation Tasmania.

All scholarships will provide quality coach development and learning opportunities, as well as encouraging progression along the coaching development pathway through financial and other supports.

Congratulations to the Tassie Men's Under 21 team on their silver medal at the National Under 21 Championships held in Canberra this week.

The team had a fantastic tournament, with the gold medal match against WA going to a penalty shoot out (3-1), after a draw 4-4 in regulation time.
