We recognise and thank all the incredible members who selflessly serve our community with courage, commitment and compassion. Your time, dedication and willingness to support others in times of need does not go unnoticed.

A special thank you also to the families behind the scenes who provide constant support and encouragement. Your contribution is just as important and deeply appreciated.

Congratulations to one of our own, Paul Baker AFSM, who was formally recognised at the Investiture Ceremony at Government House. This honour reflects Paul’s outstanding dedication and service to the Tasmania Fire Service and the Lauderdale community. We are incredibly proud of his commitment and the positive impact he continues to make. His friends and fellow volunteer fire fighters joined Paul and his family to celebrate this special occasion πŸš’πŸ”₯

After a busy summer, we have had a slower start to Autumn! Our trucks have been in and out of Engineering with a few issues being repaired but we have continued to train each week. The nights are cooler but ground fuel is still very dry and fires are still burning well, as we discovered this afternoon being paged to assist Seven Mile Beach Fire Brigade and Cambridge Fire Brigade - Tasmania at a πŸ”₯ in the pine forest at Seven Mile. Crews returned to station and another crewed jumped in the 4.1 to go and assist a local landowner with a hazard reduction burn this evening! πŸš’

The day started a little earlier for a couple of members this morning! We were initially alerted at 1.30am to a fire on South Arm Road - turned out to be large area of grass burning from side of the road near the old tip. We quickly had support from Sandford Volunteer Fire Brigade and HFB fire fighters from Clarence station.

Whilst trying to contain this πŸ”₯, we were alerted to two additional fires - one near Lazenby Sands and the other near Calvert's Lagoon. We quickly packed up and headed towards South Arm. It was apparent on the way down the fire was burning well. We met South Arm Volunteer Fire Station members on site. We called in additional resources from Rokeby Volunteer Fire Brigade, Cambridge Fire Brigade - Tasmania, Seven Mile Beach Fire Brigade. Fortunately we were able to contain it before day light and handed over to the Parks and Wildlife firies to patrol and continue to extinguish any hot spots! πŸ’ͺπŸš’

Today, at the Australia Day Awards, we proudly recognise Bakes β€” or as we’ve known him for the past 18 years, β€œChief” β€” on being awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM).

With 25 years of dedicated service to the Tasmania Fire Service, Bakes has exemplified commitment, leadership, and service to community. His impact has been felt not only within the Lauderdale Fire Brigade but across the wider TFS community, particularly through his many years as a Training Instructor, where he has shaped and supported countless firefighters.

As Bakes stepped down as Brigade Chief this year, we reflect with gratitude on his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication. It has truly been a privilege to learn from and work alongside him.

On behalf of the Lauderdale Fire Brigade, congratulations Bakes on this well-deserved honour, and thank you for everything you’ve given to our brigade and our community. We look forward to many more years ahead πŸš’πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

Wednesday night saw the brigade swing back into training for 2026!

We headed up Tara Dr and ran a number of scenarios to prepare in the event we have a fire come up from below πŸ”₯

Crews were tasked with managing spot fires, asset protection, giving weather conditions updates, filling using high flow pumps and we even threw in a burnover drill πŸš’
