Yesterday our sub centre had the privilege of hosting more than 40 cadets, aged between 13 and 17, from the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club.

The aim of the session was to give the cadets a deeper understanding of emergency response from a St Johns perspective, while strengthening interagency teamwork and communication.

We started the day with an informal chat about how a 000 call is handled from the start until the ambulance is despatched. We then talked about how our sub centre is run, followed by a tour of our training and storage facilities. Next they explored all of our road ambulances, our 4WD ambulance and mass casualty trailer, where they got to see our equipment, first aid supplies and medications.

Another fun activity was applying a combat torniquet to a severed limb.

An AED training simulator was setup so the kids could practice their CPR with live feedback.

The last session of the day was a competitive relay which involved the teams applying snake bite bandages, splints to broken limbs, slings to broken arms, administering Ventolin to a patient having an asthma attack and lots more. This was a lot of fun.

We finished the day with a sausage sizzle.

The St John volunteers and Community Paramedic really enjoyed hosting the CSLSC.

2025 LANCRLIN EMERGENCY SERVICES CHRISTMAS PARTY

On Saturday evening Lancelin community emergency services agencies joined together to celebrate the year. Members and volunteers (past and present) from all services and community groups enjoyed an evening of yummy food, fun games and lots of very sweet prizes. Close to 90 people attended the evening and what was noted by many was the number of young families/children in attendance, and how much fun the kids had. Thanks to all involved in putting the evening together.

๐ŸŒŸ Congratulations to Terrie James! ๐ŸŒŸ
Weโ€™re thrilled to share that Terrie has been named a finalist in the Volunteer Support Role Recognition Award โ€” and itโ€™s so well deserved! ๐Ÿ™Œ
For over 25 years, Terrie has been the quiet force behind the scenes at our Lancelin Sub Centre. Sheโ€™s on call 24/7, making sure every emergency call is answered and every crew is dispatched without delay โ€” and not a single call has ever been missed under her watch. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ“ž
But Terrieโ€™s impact goes far beyond the phone line. Sheโ€™s the heart of our team โ€” cooking meals before training, building bonds over shared dinners, checking in on volunteer availability, and even hosting breakfast for the whole community on ANZAC Day.
Terrie truly leads with heart, thinks team, makes it better, and walks the talk. ๐Ÿ’š
Join us in congratulating Terrie on this incredible recognition โ€” your dedication inspires us all! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Just how much goes into training our team. These simulated mass casualty scenarios allow for us to better serve the community.

If you were driving along Indian Ocean Drive last night and noticed the multitude of emergency vehicle beacons flashing on the corner of King Drive and are curious to know what was happening, hereโ€™s an explanation and some photos.

A multi-agency mass casualty simulation exercise was in progress. This involved volunteers from Yanchep Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, St John Ambulance Lancelin, Woodridge, Gingin & Chittering with a total of 6 ambulances on scene, as well as many volunteers from SES Two Rocks.

These emergency services were attending a cars -v- bus scenario with more than 20 people involved in the accident. Several occupants of one of the vehicles were trapped so the YVFRS used all of their rescue tools to extricate these patients. The SJA volunteers were involved in stabilising the patients whilst still trapped.

Other ambulance volunteers worked to extricate and stabilise all of the victims in the bus and second vehicle along with people who had been ejected on impact.

The SES were on hand to provide help with lighting the scene and setting up temporary casualty triage posts as well as assisting with the extrication of patients.

Exercises like this provide valuable training to all of the local volunteers.

If you would like to become a volunteer of any of the above agencies simply google the one of your choice and follow the steps to apply.
