Just a couple of photos from yesterdays training session on Lamb Island. With the constant increases in population, to enhance our firefighting capacity, we are aiming to incorporate our portable pump into our brigade support trailer, but before we get too far ahead of ourselves we conducted an exercise that incorporated the portable pump and our fire appliance.

We also had one of our brigade officers and a few of our firefighters on Karragarra Island for our annual face mask fitting and testing, thanks to Karragarra for hosting the testing this year.

Your brigade is ready to serve their community. If you ever have a fire or emergency 000 is the number to call.

Wishing all on Lamb and the SMBI's a Happy and Safe Easter...

Yesterday, three members of Lamb Island Fire Brigade were recognised for their service with the Queensland Fire Department 10 Year Service Medal.

Congratulations to Firefighter Dillon Turnbull, Volunteer Community Educator Kay McInnes, and Brigade Support Member Charlene Blair on reaching this milestone.

Ten years of service is a significant achievement. It reflects ongoing commitment to training, supporting brigade activities, and being there for the community when it matters most.

We thank Dillon, Kay and Charlene for their dedication and the contribution they continue to make to Lamb Island. Our brigade and your community are proud of you and thank you for your ongoing amazing service.

Last night the Lamb Island Rural Fire Brigade had the opportunity to host our local and District SES members as they conducted a search exercise on the island, including the use of some impressive new drone technology.

While our brigade attended as observers for the exercise, it was a great opportunity to see the SES team in action and learn more about the tools and techniques they use during search operations.

After the exercise wrapped up, members from both teams spent time together discussing how we can continue to strengthen the way we work alongside each other to support the Lamb Island community. Cooperation between emergency services is an important part of keeping our community safe, and conversations like these help ensure we are ready to respond when needed.

As we move forward, it may become more common to see the Lamb Island Rural Fire Brigade truck and the SES vehicle working side by side during training and incidents.

A big thank you to our SES colleagues for allowing us to observe the exercise and for the ongoing partnership between our two services.

“Together, our local emergency services are committed to keeping Lamb Island safe.”

What a great run around the Island taking Santa to visit all the good kids we have here.
And some slightly older kids too 🤭
It was a really good turn out around our lovely Island home and we enjoy helping Santa see you all.
We even had a few gifts come our way, thank you very much 🍻
If you can share your pics or videos of your Santa visit post below we would love that 🎅
Thank you Lamb from all of us at your

Big Congratulations to our First Officer Noel Walker.
Noel recently travelled to the Gold Coast to receive his medal for his 2 deployments to the 2019/2020 Black Summer Fires.
Well earned acknowledgment for the time he puts into the Rural Fire Service.
Not just on Lamb Island, but the many other deployments he goes to around the country.
We all see Noel around in this role but don’t know just how much time he puts in so we can have one of (if not the best 😁) Brigades in Queensland.
You would measure his weekly time volunteered in days and not hours.
Some interesting quick facts on Noel you may not know.
Has a Bach. Ed and Diploma in Teaching working for Education Queensland for 38 years.
30 years of which was as Principal in 7 different schools.
JP Qualilfied for 45 years
Joined Lamb Island RFS in 2011
2nd Officer in 2013 and rose to 1st Officer in 2017 to present
Awarded ACT Emergancy Services Medal
In 2019 he was awarded RFS Brisbane Region Volunteerteer of the Year ,
and the Redlands City Council “Local Hero of the Year”
and the Australian Day SMBI Citizen of the Year!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Has completed over 100 course for the RFS
Been on 7 deployments In several states to help In some of the worst Bush Fires in that time.
And for our Lovely Island he has been on over 220 call outs involving a wide varity of incidents.
You never know what you get until you get there, With by far most of Ambulance Assist call outs being taken on by Noel.
So a big Well Done and well deserved to you Noel

The biggest Thank You to Trevor and Shannon.
They left their families and homes at the Gold Coast to be here for us.
It would not be nice to hear how bad the Gold Coast was coping it and not be there to look after your own loved ones.
They camped out in the station for 5 days.
It would not be a fun time at all.
Especially in the winds with branches hitting the shed a a real concern and fear that big Gumtree would come crashing through the shed.
They actually spent that night towards the rear of shed for safety, a wise decision indeed.
So Thank you again, you guys are true hero’s that gave your time for us through this dangerous situation.
And we hope your families and homes came through unscathed as well.

With our damaged power line at the station the generator will remain in use.
Without it the ambulance and it’s equipment will be flat within a couple of hours and unable to attend to emergencies.
Something none of us want to happen.
Our Fire Truck and Energex vehicles there are also needed to be on charge constantly for the same reason.
There is a priority on this repair and it should be fixed soon as QBuild is organising an electrician to come and rectify it.

It seems the worse is definitely behind us now and we had no serious injuries or worse and no houses destroyed.
Some have been very lucky with extremely close calls.
The community did prepare quite well with making sure there wasn’t flying objects from yards etc and I’ve never seen so many taped up windows.
Give yourselves a pat on the back for your good work.
Also thank you for your patience as were making the roadways clear from debris and making the many damaged powerlines as safe as we could.
I actually lost count of how many branches and trees we cleared. And some were cleared by residents as well . We responded to 13 Power line issues, including our stations.
But you waited patiently around the truck as you should and we are thankful for that.
We only had one person who’s time was more important and cut it very close to one of our members climbing back in the truck, at a speed that was definitely unsafe.
After following this person to let them know what they did was dangerous, we definitely got a not so nice reply.
So no thank you to this person.
But the rest of you Well Done!

Santa with his famous Lamb Island Lolly drop was loved by all again for another year!
Over 80 bags of Lollies delivered to the Island kids. Some of the “children” very questionable and looked very mature for their age 🤔 😁
It is great to see the enjoyment in all the faces and appreciation for the Brigade and it’s Volunteers and the close relationship we have with Santa to bring this Joy to the Island. More pics and videos to come but feel free to add your videos and pics to the post if you wish.
Merry And Safe Christmas to all!!!

Recently all the SMBI Brigades were invited to have a run down on the safety procedures on our ferries. It was a very informative and interesting talk, thanks Steve 👍🏻
What can you do if ever there is an emergency? Simply follow all instructions of the crew, they are very well trained in these situations.
If you do see any thing that could be a possible emergency. Like smoke, burning smells, dangerous passenger behaviour etc, let the decky know straight away.
