π FIRE DANGER RATINGS EXPLAINED
Fire Danger Ratings tell you how dangerous a fire would be if one started. They're based on weather conditions like temperature, humidity, wind speed, and how dry the vegetation is.
π’ MODERATE - Plan and prepare.
β’ Stay up to date and be ready to act if there is a fire.
π‘ HIGH - Be ready to act.
β’ There's a heightened risk. Be alert for fires in your area.
β’ Decide what you will do if a fire starts.
β’ If a fire starts, your life and property may be at risk. The safest option is to avoid bush fire risk areas.
π EXTREME - Take action now to protect your life and property.
β’ These are dangerous fire conditions.
β’ Check your bush fire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready.
β’ If a fire starts, take immediate action.
β’ If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
β’ Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas.
π΄ CATASTROPHIC - For your survival, leave bush fire risk areas.
β’ These are the most dangerous conditions for a fire.
β’ Your life may depend on the decisions you make, even before there is a fire.
β’ Stay safe by going to a safer location early in the morning or the night before.
β’ Homes cannot withstand fires in these conditions.
β’ You may not be able to leave and help may not be available.

π« WHAT IS A TOTAL FIRE BAN?
A Total Fire Ban is declared when conditions are very hot, dry, and windy - conditions where fires can start easily and spread quickly.
On a Total Fire Ban day, NO fires can be lit in the open, and all fire permits are suspended.
β YOU CANNOT:
β’ Light any fire in the open (including campfires, wood-fired pizza ovens, and solid fuel BBQs)
β’ Use an angle grinder, welder, or other equipment that produces sparks
β’ Conduct hot works (welding, grinding, gas cutting)
β’ Use equipment that may cause sparks or flames

YOU CAN:
β’ Use electric BBQs (under direct control of a responsible adult, with no combustible material within 2 metres)
β’ Use gas BBQs (with specific conditions - must be within 20m of a dwelling or in designated picnic areas, with immediate water supply)
β’ Cook on your stove inside

Breaking a Total Fire Ban is serious. Penalties can include fines and/or imprisonment
