Today is not Star Wars day! Although at we do love Star Wars because most of the Brigade saw the original in 1977!
It’s St Florian’s Day, the patron saint of firefighters - International Firefighters day. From the smallest Brigades to the largest in the world - being Tokyo Fire Department, firefighters work everyday to keep their communities safe.
We are all proud of what we do - noting autumn will continue to be dry with average bushfire risk.
Remember May 4th - not Star Wars Day. International Firefighters Day.

Strong advice from the Tasmania Fire Service on fuel hoarding. Be wise. Be safe. And know your risk.

👨‍🚒Tasmania Fire Service is warning of the potential fire safety risk to stockpiling petrol and diesel at home.

⚠️🔥Storing extra fuel at home increases the risk of fire, fumes, and creates unsafe storage conditions.

➡️ To keep yourself, your household, and your community safe, please be aware of the following advice.

📌 Store only small amounts of fuel at home and ensure quantities remain below dangerous goods threshold limits.

📌 Use approved, clearly labelled fuel containers that comply with Australian Standards for flammable and combustible liquids.

📌 Keep fuel in a cool, well ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and any potential ignition sources to minimise fire and vapour hazards.

📌 Store fuel separately from incompatible chemicals, ensuring containers are upright, secure, and protected from heat.

📌 Maintain appropriate fire safety equipment, such as a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher, and ensure anyone who may need to use it understands safe operation.

📌 Keep all flammable liquids out of reach of children.

📌 Be aware that vapours from flammable liquids can significantly increase fire risks in both home fires and bushfires.

Officer Zach and Firefighter Alex joined the crews up at Arthur’s Lake recently during blackout operations.

The 12 hour shift also saw them identifying dangerous trees which will be fallen by contractors to make the fire-ground safe.

Nothing is worth the risk when it comes to dangerous trees!!!

And thank you from for doing your bit to protect and the wider

Let’s keep this vigilance going over the rest of summer and autumn.

Tasmania Fire Service would like to thank the Tasmanian community for their support during the Total Fire Ban and statewide permit suspension period.

Commissioner Jeremy Smith said community cooperation played an important role in reducing the risk of fires during a period of heightened fire danger.

“We are grateful to the Tasmanian community for acting responsibly during the Total Fire Ban and permit suspension period” Commissioner Smith said.

“Any fire that started in the forecast conditions would have been difficult to control and would have posed a significant risk to lives and property.”

“The Bureau of Meteorology cancelled the severe weather warning for damaging winds this afternoon, and while the Total Fire Ban and permit suspension were critical in reducing risk during heightened fire danger, the easing of conditions have provided some relief for communities and firefighters.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain prepared to respond to any incidents that may arise.”

Commissioner Smith said Tasmania Fire Service and our partner agencies are prepared to respond to fires across the landscape this fire season, and encourages every Tasmanian to review their bushfire plan.

“If you don’t have a plan, take the time to head to fire.tas.gov.au to prepare one to keep you and your loved ones safe.”

The Total Fire Ban remains in place until 2am, Sunday 11 January, and a Fire Permit Suspension remains in place statewide until 2am Monday 12 January with no new permits being issued during this time.

“As always, if you see smoke, flames, or anything that looks like a fire re-igniting, please don’t assume someone else has reported it. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.”
