So I thought we are a bit over due for a bit of an insight into who we are and what we are about.
I (Troy) grew up on a farm in SA where my father and Uncle ram a small herd of pigs as a mixed indoor and outdoor operation. Alongside the pigs, they also raised sheep, cattle, ducks and chickens.
All livestock were processed on the farm by my father and uncle to feed the family, so the connection with where food came from started at a young age.
I worked in intensive piggeries in my teens, moving away from the industry for some time, whilst I followed my passion for cattle and horses which took me to America and different parts of Australia.
I met my wife Abby who grew up a city girl in Melbourne but had a passion to get out of the city and become a farmer.
Once married, we purchased an 80-acre irrigation farm in Wyuna (in between Shepparton and Echuca). We have since had 3 beautiful kids. Bonnie 8 and twins C**t and Hazel 6 who all love the farm life.
As a family, we started questioning modern farming practice and explored alternative farming methods and discovered regenerative agriculture. The more research we did, the more it resonated and made perfect sense.
We started planting multi-species cover crops and moving our cattle daily. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking pigs would be a great addition to the farm to fertilize the soil.
I followed Darren and Sharron, the creators of Goulburn Valley Pork on Facebook admiring what they were doing. Then the post came up that they were selling up and I reach out to them, seeing if if they would be interested in us taking on their business. Luckily for us they welcomed the idea with open arms. We are very thankful for all the help and support that Daz and Shazza have given us.
After a while of selling our pork directly to the public through farmers markets we added our beef to the menu. So when the opportunity came up to purchase Kyabrams Main Street Butchery, it seemed a natural progression. I allows us to control more of the process and give us market access to our local community on a daily basis.
As a family we are extremely passionate about producing in a manner that is healthy for the animals, the people and the environment.
Having the ability to give this to our family is a true blessing. It is very exciting for us to be able to supply you and your family with the same nourishment we give ours.
