🦜 Happy World Parrot Day! 🌍✨

Today, 31 May, the world stops to celebrate the smartest, most colourful, and loudest characters in the sky! Founded by the World Parrot Trust back in 2004, this special day is all about showing love to these incredible birds while spreading awareness for their protection in the wild.Check out how our global diversity stacks up against our incredible backyard:

🌍 The Global Picture: There are roughly 400 unique species of parrots across the planet, from tiny pygmy parrots to massive macaws!

The Aussie Hub: Australia is famous as the global "Land of Parrots," acting as a proud home to 56 distinct native species.

🌿 The Kuranda Connection: Living right here in the wet tropics, we are at the absolute epicentre of it all! From the hyper-vibrant Rainbow Lorikeets to our local cheeky cockatoos, we literally live inside a world-class natural sanctuary.

Why they need our help: Sadly, nearly a third of all parrot species globally face threats from habitat loss and the illegal wildlife trade. On World Parrot Day, let's pledge to protect our native forests so these beautiful voices stay loud and proud in Kuranda. What is your favourite local parrot to spot around town?

⭐ BIRD SPOTLIGHT ~ Japanese Quail ⭐

These little foragers are small, hardy, ground-dwelling birds highly valued for rapid maturity - maturing in about 6–8 weeks and typically weighing in between 100–160g. They generally have a short lifespan of maximum two and a half years but are avid breeders and lay plenty of eggs frequently.

These little guys are a cute addition to our park, running around picking up scraps and foraging in the garden beds, kids love them and they have some beautiful colours to their feathers, come say hi to our lovely little Japanese Quails 👋
