From Tamara Petersen :

A few months ago I had the privilege of viewing The Plastic Country, a documentary by Kal Glanznig and the Plastic Country film team. The film investigates the plastic crisis, uncovering a hidden threat to our health and our future. The issues raised in the documentary are incredibly relevant and important to our island community and therefore have organised for The Gutter Bar to host a viewing of the film. Would love to see you there.

Time: arrive at 5.30pm for a 5.45pm seated viewing
Date: Friday 25th September
Location: Gutter Bar, Kooringal
RSVP: Tamara Petersen 0439 771 221 or [email protected] or [email protected]

From Tamara Petersen:

The Great Kooringal Beach Spring Clean

Firstly, I must apologise for not publicly thanking Nick Chatburn, who generously donated to the clean up back in March. Your donation was greatly appreciated.

As people may have noticed, currently there is an awful lot of debris sprawled along the Eastern beach. The organisers of Clean Up Australia Day have created an initiative for a Spring Clean in September and I have registered KLHA as a participant of this event. If you would like to be involved or donate, you can do so by clicking on the link below:

Meeting Point: For anyone who would like to attend the beach clean up on Saturday 26th September, please meet at Reeders Point at 10am (same spot as last time). We will have a quick de-brief to start.

Depending on numbers, participants will be either be split into teams with one team starting at Reeders and heading north, finishing at Mirrapool and the other team starting on the south side of the Shea Oaks (first track onto beach from fire break) and working back south, also finishing up at Mirrapool. High tide (approx 2m) is around 7am on Ocean beach and 8am in Gutter.

This year I will set up sweet and savoury snack and drink stations at approx 1.5 km intervals. If you would like to contribute by bringing some treats, that would be great. Esky's with ice will be provided.

Please bring sunscreen, water, hat, phone etc. Gloves and tidy bags will be provided. If you would like to participate, let Tam know prior to the date for catering purposes. Thank you.

Also, any suggestions on how we can improve event from last time, please let me know.

Please note: Bird Flu is on the rise in Australia but human risk still does remain low. If you do come across a sick or dead bird, please do not touch or move it. If safe to do so, take a photo, recode the location, time and let Tamara know, who will then inform the Rangers.

If you can’t attend our clean up, then check out the website for other locations to join.

Census documentation will be distributed tomorrow between 10-3pm to residents, landholders and holiday makers by a Census field officer and Tamara. If you are not home, we will leave the forms in a place nominated by yourself or somewhere safe and obvious. If you don't receive a form, please text Tamara on 0439771221 before 5pm tomorrow. As requirements of the Census, we have to visit each property regardless if it is occupied on the night for documentation purpose
