📚 This week's pick: Wendy recommends With My Little Eye by Sandra Hogan. "It's a brilliantly told and extremely interesting true story about three children recruited by their parents to spy for ASIO in 1950s Australia during the Russian infiltration of Australia during the Cold War. This book reads like the very best of spy thrillers with the perfect amount of humour!"

The eSafety Commissioner run some excellent free online presentations with the Be Connected program on keeping safe online.

For the month of July they will be offering the following topics:

• Safer online shopping and banking
• Useful tips for your iPhone
• Technology and your health

You can access these from the comfort of your own home or come in and use our free WiFi or one of our public computers.

Keep informed and be connected through your local Library.

This year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge is off and running at schools around the state!

Why not visit your local library to find a new read to add to your reading tally? Libraries Tasmania has a large collection of books for children and young people:

📚 For children who are learning to read independently, check out early readers. They feature simple vocabulary and repetitive text.

🕵️ For curious kids, try borrowing a Little Explorers book pack. These packs contain five carefully selected books on an early learning topic for children aged 4–8 years.

🖥️ The eLibrary has lots of junior stories on Libby and BorrowBox. Families can also explore StoryBox, where you can watch expert Australian storytellers read diverse and inclusive stories.

🔎 If your little one has a favourite book, you don’t have to spend time searching for similar titles. Simply hop onto our catalogue and check out the “You may also like” tab – you’ll find great suggestions with similar themes and styles.

Open to anyone over 18, no bookings required.

A big call out to all the men out there in our community who might need a check. We encourage you to come in and tick this off your list as part of Men's Health Week.

📚 This week's pick: Elyse recommends Orlando by Virginia Woolf. "This book was ahead of its time as it explores gender identity and social challenges faced by women. Orlando was inspired by Woolf’s close relationship with the novelist and poet, Vita Sackville-West. I picked this book up while travelling around Europe and the UK which enriched the experience of the settings. I thoroughly enjoyed Woolf’s descriptions of the landscapes and stories of unique passionate affairs."

💡Her reading hack: "I always have a book on hand as there are moments where you get stuck waiting for appointments or transportation. Instead of relying on mindless scrolling on the phone a book will provide entertainment, education, and relaxation all in one."

✨ What an incredible event at Kingston Library yesterday! ✨

We were so lucky to host acclaimed author Sarah Clutton as she shared insights into her beautiful new novel The Bookshop of Buried Pasts. From its rich, multi-generational story to its evocative settings spanning rural New South Wales to England, Sarah’s discussion truly brought the book to life. 📚

In conversation with the wonderful Nadia Mahjouri, the evening explored themes of memory, community, family secrets, and the powerful role books play in our lives. It was warm, thoughtful, and deeply engaging — everything you could hope for in a literary event.

A big thank you to Nadia for guiding such a heartfelt conversation, and to the Hobart Bookshop for supporting the event with book sales.
And of course, thank you to everyone who attended and made the evening so special! 💛
