The Australian Government is introducing a new emergency warning system later this year called AusAlert.

AusAlert uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during local and national disasters.

These messages aim to keep communities informed so they can take action, saving lives and property.

In the lead up to AusAlert being used, there will be some testing of the system during June and July.

A regional test is happening in the Launceston area on 15 June, followed by a national test on 27 July.

For more information and resources, visit www.ausalert.gov.au.

💚💛📖 Yesterday we celebrated the 26th edition of National Simultaneous Storytime with this year’s delightful book, Luna Roo: the Kangaroo Baller — written by Adam Wallace and Adrian Beck, and illustrated by Shane McG.

Across Australia, children in libraries, schools, early learning centres, homes and communities came together to share the joy of reading — all at the same time!

We were thrilled to have Taroona Primary School students join us for this special event, presented by well-known and much-loved Tasmanian personality Peter Gee, Interim Commissioner of Children Ros Cornish, and the wonderful Kingston Library staff.

Together, we enjoyed Luna Roo: the Kangaroo Baller, celebrating imagination, connection, and the magic of storytelling. ⚽💫

📖💚💛Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Celebrating National Volunteer Week ❤️🧡💙

Last week we hosted a special afternoon tea to thank our incredible library volunteers. The event included a lively quiz and plenty of warm conversation - a fitting tribute to the people who support our library and community in so many ways.

We were honoured to be joined by Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, and Ginna Webster, Secretary of DECYP.

To our volunteers: thank you for your commitment, enthusiasm and generosity. Our library is brighter because of you! 🙌

Digital Volunteers needed.
Hi everyone we are looking for some more lovely digital volunteers to join our team at Kingston and Huonville Library.

You don't have to be a tech wizard, just someone that regularly uses a phone, tablet or computer. You can volunteer for as little as 1 - 2 hours per week or fortnight.

Good communication skills, patience and a willingness to help are the most important skills.

Sound like you? We would love to chat more.

Please contact us or message our page and we will pass your interest on to our Digital Inclusion and Adult Learning Coordinator.
