OK team, need your voices - again. It looks like a Skate Park for Kingy is a little closer to becoming a reality. Page 36 onwards of the doc entitled Youth Outdoor Recreation Action Plan at the below link explains it all.
They are planning to put it down near the sports fields (yes - the noisy minority that own million dollar apartments on the foreshore have won that one).
BUT - good news is it's going to be a regional level facility - ie a pretty big one - so that's cool.
Anyhoo, have a look at the deets and take the survey at the link below - only takes 5 mins. REALLY need you all to do this survey to reiterate that - yes - we want the damn park. ASAP. Let's go!

PS - in my feedback I suggested they look at the grassy bit behind the old VMR tower - near the existing playground. Throw your suggested locations in to the comment section too :)

These are the kind of kids that some influential Kingscliff residents don’t want to give a skatepark to.
They protest with unsubstantiated arguments like: it’s too noisy, it attracts drug dealers; skateparks are an eye sore; as long as you put it in the middle of nowhere.

I think it’s about time that noisy and uneducated minority are politely told to sit down, and finally give Kingy a skatepark, in the middle of the town so it’s safe, so our kids can learn, thrive and become bloody Olympians for goodness sake.

Enough of the garbage arguments, excuses and denying our youth.

VERY disappointed that the new Open Space Strategy open now for comment has DROPPED the action item of a skate park for Kingscliff! After all the years of consultation and community making it clear they want this, why has this now been dropped? Extremely disappointing. Tweed Shire Council are undertaking yet another strategy. I’ve lost count of how many of these we’ve had to comment on and state we want a skate park in Kingy.

Anyway - here’s the latest. If you can spare a minute please have your say, because if we don’t keep doing so they’ll say we don’t want it!

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery???

FYI Tweed voters - this Councillor seeking re-election next month, has never once in the years of our campaign, ever reached out or shown support for our aim. Councillors that have? Reece Byrnes, Chris Cherry, and Ron Cooper. (The very Councillors this person claims are against the skatepark).

Make of this Councillor’s last minute claims of support what you will.

Aussie teen Keegan Palmer takes out gold at Tokyo! Growing up on the GC he had his pick of great parks to hone his craft at. If only our Tweed athletes had the same opportunities.

Noteworthy in his humble interview: this win was a family effort; and the skatepark community have been his extended family since he was 5.

Surely NOW we can start treating this sport with the same respect we do other sports, and provide the facilities it deserves.

One awesome run first time out would have secured gold for the young Australian. So he went even better on his final run.

Our Story

After the community’s countless efforts and calls for a skatepark for Kingscliff over the last 30 years, we think 2018 is THE year!

We need to KEEP speaking up, KEEP being positive, and KEEP letting our Councillors and Members of Parliament know, that this is something we want to see happen: sooner rather than later. For our families, our youth, and even the grown ups that still like to have a crack! ;)
