Australia Post are pleased to announce that applications for their 2026 Community Grants program are now open.

Community Grants of up to $10,000 are available for locally led and delivered projects that help people meaningfully connect and improve mental wellbeing outcomes in their community.

For more than six years, the Australia Post Community Grants program has made a real difference in communities across Australia, supporting initiatives that strengthen social connection and promote positive mental wellbeing.

They also have a proud history of supporting communities during disasters, acting as a vital connector and provider of essential resources and support. This experience has reinforced the critical role that strong social connections and mental wellbeing play in community recovery.

In recognition of these ongoing needs, this year, they are again offering an additional $250,000 in grant funding to support projects that enhance mental wellbeing and build resilience in disaster-impacted communities.

Eligibility criteria and information on how to apply can be found on the auspost website.

Applications close 6 July 2026, 11.59pm AEST.

📢 Council Expands Feral Pig Control Measures with New PIGBAITTA Feeders

South Burnett Regional Council has strengthened its feral pig management program with the purchase of two new PIGBAITTA feeders. These feeders will be used to pre-feed and bait feral pigs, complementing Council’s existing resources of five pig traps — two large and three small — which are available for hire by local landholders.

The new equipment builds on the success of Council’s recent coordinated 1080 baiting program, which saw a 25% increase in participation from landholders and a substantial rise in pig baiting activity across the region.

This investment reflects Council’s commitment to supporting landholders in tackling the environmental and agricultural damage caused by feral pigs.
Feral pigs are a serious threat to our farming community, native wildlife, and waterways. By expanding our control measures, we’re giving landholders more tools to protect their properties and the environment.

Council encourages landholders to take advantage of the traps and feeders, and to participate in the next coordinated baiting program in October.

For further information regarding best-practice pest management, please contact Council’s Natural Resource Management team on 07 4189 9100 or email [email protected].

📢 Council Invites Landholders to Join Winter Rabbit Baiting Program

The South Burnett Regional Council boundary is located 60kms from the rabbit proof fence, however the region is experiencing an increase in rabbit populations.
Landholders are encouraged to monitor for rabbit activity, destroy warrens and known harbour, such as removing piles of old logs or bricks, removing dense w**d infestation, clearing under old buildings and participating in coordinated pest animal control programs.

Council is calling on local landholders to take part in its upcoming winter Pindone rabbit baiting program, aimed at reducing the impact of invasive rabbits across the region.

Rabbits are a serious pest, causing significant damage to pastures, lawns, playing fields, crops, and native vegetation. By working together, landholders can achieve more effective control and help protect the region’s agricultural productivity and biodiversity.

Program Details:

➡️Registration period: 12 June – 26 June 2026
➡️Bait collection dates: 6 July – 10 July 2026
➡️Location: Final collection points will be confirmed once participant locations have been assessed.
➡️Cost: Free

Pindone bait is a registered and approved method for rabbit control. Council will provide guidance on safe handling and application to ensure compliance with all legal and environmental requirements.

Coordinated action is the most effective way to manage rabbit populations. By participating, you’re helping protect your property and the wider South Burnett community.

For further information regarding best-practice pest management, please contact Council’s Natural Resource Management team on 07 4189 9100 or email [email protected].

This is an excellent opportunity for residents to engage with the project, provide feedback, and gain insights into the future of their beloved park.

Throughout the month of June, several information sessions will be held at the Wondai Library, where community members can review survey feedback and the initial drafted design plans for the park. These sessions are designed to be informative and interactive, allowing residents to voice their opinions and ask questions.
