Captain of his Destiny

We have a new book in all of our Information Centres called, "Captain of his Destiny", a story inspired by the life of South Burnett man, Jim Burns. The book is written by talented author, and niece of Jim Burns, Elizabeth Caffery.

Elizabeth states, "[This is a] story of Jim Burns - a severely disabled polio paraplegic who was determined to defy his disability to live a ‘normal’ life. He became a brilliant violinist, teacher, concert conductor, adventurer, family mentor and friend to many."

The book can be bought from our Information Centres in Kingaroy, Wondai, Nanango and Murgon for $30.

Taabinga Cemetery Walking Tour 🪦

On Saturday the 16th of May, the Kingaroy Heritage Museum held a walking tour at the Taabinga Cemetery with a total of 45 people in attendance.

It was a lovely day learning about the symbolism and meaning behind certain headstones, as well as getting to know the history of some of our local pioneers and their contribution to our area.

Stories from the following were included: John Freshwater, Ann Pugh, Frederick (Freddie) Horne, George Venman, Archibald Blue, Auguste (Granny) Strohmeyer, Howard Goodger, Anna Desjardin, Frederick Spencer, Hans Larsen, Jens Christiansen, Helena Hurley, Emma Miller, Amy Stehbens, and John Willmer.

Many enjoyed the tour and would love to see this happen again.
