Never again should we allow NYE in Kiama to come and go with a whimper, with disappointed families and community.

I thank Clr Tatrai, with whom I work very closely, for getting this petition up.

For those interested .. it is a matter of public record that Councillors Tatrai and myself voted to retain the NYE fireworks in a last ditch proposal by Councillor Brown to fund it. The Mayor had the deciding vote in a split council at that meeting which meant that this years fireworks show couldnt be funded. As councillors we must and do support all resolutions of council but that does not mean we cant resolve to fund next years event. This is our intent.

Your support of this petition is critical as we continue to persuade fellow councillors that supporting the fireworks strikes a better balance between the interests of the administration and the interests of the community.

📣 Big News for Kiama’s Harbour – Help Us Shape Its Future!

I’m incredibly proud to share that after consistent advocacy and several close calls, my motion to form a Kiama Harbour Revitalisation Working Group has finally been passed by Council.

Kiama Harbour is the jewel in our crown – a place of beauty, history and community. But let’s be honest – it’s looking a little tired and in need of thoughtful renewal. In 2021, Transport for NSW developed a plan for the harbour precinct, but unfortunately, it’s sat gathering dust. That’s about to change.

This new working group – which I will chair – is about building momentum, tapping into community aspirations, and aligning the vision for our harbour with Council’s long-term strategy. I thank Mayor McDonald and Clrs Brown, Tatrai, Larkins and Draisma for supporting this important step forward.

We’ll soon be calling for expressions of interest from the community – three members will be invited to join the group and help guide this legacy project. This is your chance to be directly involved in shaping the future of Kiama’s most iconic precinct.

Together, we can breathe new life into the harbour and leave something truly special for future generations. Let’s get to work.

ASSISTANCE FOR GERRINGONG RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB - MOTION LOST

On Tuesday nights Council meeting I brought forward a motion that Council should help the club out by providing them with a retired mower to help them maintain the grounds. Grounds, I argued, that would otherwise require council expenditure were it not for the generous help of volunteers of the club. Ultimately only The Mayor, Clrs Brown, Tatrai and myself voted for it.

Arguments against providing the Club this support at this time were:
a) its sets a precedent and
b) there is no policy on place to underpin the decision.

The above really is just a summary of what's on the public record.

I wanted to assure the club and community, that there seems genuine willingness by Council to assist the club in some way shape or form in the future and I will continue to be strong advocate for you.

More in the 2nd half of the Bugle article attached.

Often when you try to please everybody you please nobody and Kiama Council is in a tricky spot at the moment in trying to navigate its way back to financial strength while operating under the NSW Government’s Performance Improvement Order.

I have found that all.previous mayors think they did a better job than anyone before or since.. . Its kind of an in joke.... Regardless, former Mayor Mark Honey is a champion fellow.

it reminds me how much we can learn from those that came before us and that we should be thankful for their service to our community...
