In keeping with Carey’s strong tradition of serving the broader community, the OCGA has established a program to support projects that benefit disadvantaged communities. Applications from OCGA members are now welcome. Purpose:
To provide financial or other support to projects that OCGA members are actively involved in and which have a direct benefit to disadvantaged communities in Australia or ov
erseas. Communities could be geographic, interest based, affected by some negative factor (health/disaster) and are not limited to human groups, but characterised by a certain need. Applications:
Applications are open all year and once received are reviewed at the next scheduled council meetings, which take place every two months. Financial support:
The OCGA will provide up to $10,000 per financial year in funding between all the selected projects. The amount provided to a selected project will be decided by the OCGA and is limited to:
-a third of the value of all funds and in kind goods and services committed to the project provided (excluding the OCGA contribution) for the year
-half the cash funds required to be raised (excluding the OCGA contribution) for the year
a maximum of $4,000 per financial year. Funding support will be provided on a yearly basis with the option to continue funding based upon subsequent applications. A balance will be sought between supporting repeat projects and supporting once-off projects. Selection criteria:
All projects where an OCGA member provides an application will be considered with preference given to projects where:
-multiple OCGA members are involved with a significant degree of commitment (this means in excess of fundraising)
-current Carey students and/or staff are actively involved
-other members of the Carey community are involved
-the financial or other support is perceived to have the most benefit and meet the purpose for
which this funding arrangement is set up. Please note that funding is only available to projects which directly benefit a disadvantaged community. Examples of projects that will not be funded include OCGA sporting clubs and individual leadership programs. Successful applicants will be required to submit an article to The Torch on completion of their projects, highlighting the work that was done, the Carey connections involved and how the funds provided by the OCGA assisted the project (preferably with a photo) within 6 months of receiving the funds, or an alternative agreed date. Note: Please be advised that the OCGA will use its discretion in applying these guidelines and reserves the right to review their application.
