Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns

Remove washing from clotheslines
Ensure pets have a protected area
Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on
Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety

Residents across the Cumberland/Macarthur District, including Campbelltown, Liverpool, Camden, Blacktown, Penrith and Fairfield, will have noticed smoke haze and the smell of smoke today.

The smoke is drifting into the Sydney basin due to southerly winds carrying smoke from bushfires currently burning in Victoria.

This photo was taken near Kentlyn where visibility was reported to be as low as 150m in low-lying areas of Campbelltown.

Only call 000 if you see an unattended fire, flames, or an immediate threat to life or property.

Smoke safety tips:
- Keep windows and doors closed
- Avoid outdoor activities if smoke is causing irritation
- Use air conditioning on recirculate
- Those with asthma or other respiratory conditions should follow their health management plans
- If symptoms such as severe shortness of breath occur, seek medical advice

NSW RFS continues to monitor conditions closely. We appreciate the community’s cooperation in helping keep emergency lines available for genuine emergencies.
