🚨𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 & 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐈𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑 🚨

On Saturday, we had crews responded to 3 separate fire calls across our area.

While 1 property owner had a valid permit and met all safety conditions, 2 of those calls were illegal pile burns that required full extinguishment. Over the last 2 weeks, Kenthurst members have now attended 4 illegal pile burns.

🔴 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝
We are in the Bush Fire Danger Period. Warm temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation significantly increase the risk of rapid, uncontrollable wildfires.

The permit system ensures burns are conducted safely under controlled conditions to protect your home, family, and our community.

If you are planning any burning activities on your property, take note of the following:

✔️ Fire Permits are MANDATORY: A permit is required for burning activities during the Bush Fire Danger Period in RFS districts, and at all times in Fire and Rescue NSW districts statewide.

Permits are FREE & Easy to Get:
🔺 In an RFS District? Apply online via the NSW RFS website.
🔺 In a Fire & Rescue NSW District? Apply via the Fire and Rescue NSW website.

✔️ Always Notify Before Lighting Up: Even with a permit, you MUST notify the RFS and your neighbours at least 24 hours prior to lighting up. Submit your burn notification online.

✔️ What Can You Burn? You can ONLY burn natural vegetation grown on your property. This does NOT include hardwoods, fence posts, treated timber, or building materials.

❗️ Heavy Penalties Apply: Failing to secure a permit, burning unapproved materials, or ignoring weather related bans carries serious fines.

It has been more than six years since Australia’s last major bush fire season made headlines around the world. Population growth, and new developments have transformed our surrounding area. But while our streets look different, the bush fire threat in our local gullies and landscape remains unchanged, especially with El Niño conditions established and forecasts indicating warmer, drier weather ahead.

To help our community prepare, The Hills District RFS and The Hills Shire Council are rolling out the Four Weeks to Fire Ready online program alongside a series of community meetings delivered across high bush fire risk areas within The Hills.

- Today, 12th October -

A Total Fire Ban is in place today,, Monday 12th October. The Greater Sydney Region is forecast to experience Extreme Fire Danger with hot, dry and windy conditions.

🚫TOTAL FIRE BAN RULES🚫

➡️ No fires during a Total Fire Ban

➡️ During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.

➡️ General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.

➡️ The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.

❗️Reminder❗️

✅ Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.

✅ Avoid Prolonged Outdoor Activities - especially during the hottest part of the day. Seek shade and take regular breaks if you need to be outside.

✅ Slip, Slop, Slap – Protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing.

✅ Check on Others – Look out for vulnerable people in our community, including elderly neighbours or those with health conditions.

✅ 𝐑𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐃 - 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 & 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐭
The post-burn assessment and mop-up operations following the recent RFS hazard reduction burn are now complete.

All temporary closure signs along local fire trails and bushland access points have been removed, and the area is once again open to the public.

❗️REMINDER
• Stay on designated trails: Some burnt logs, tree stumps, and ash beds off the main paths may still hold residual heat or remain structurally weak.
• Watch for falling debris: Overhanging limbs or hollowed trunks can drop unexpectedly, especially during windy conditions.
• Report hazards: If you spot immediate safety hazards, please report them to Triple Zero (000).

Thank you to the Kenthurst community for your patience and cooperation while our volunteer crews worked to safely complete this hazard reduction work.
