🔥𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 – 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐲𝐚🔥

Earlier today, Kenthurst RFB, alongside crews from Oakville Rural Fire Brigade, Rouse Hill Rural Fire Brigade, Annangrove Rural Fire Brigade responded to an active grass fire in Maraylya.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of all responding crews, the fire was quickly contained and extinguished.

🕊️ 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝑱𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒚 𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒄𝒌 🕊️
It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Jenny Hancock.

Jenny Hancock (née Brown) the girl from Adelaide who met the love of her life, moved to Kenthurst, raised a family, gave generously to her community, and lived a full and beautiful life.

Jenny was the wife of Ray "Biggles" Hancock, who also sadly passed away recently. Together, they were well known and highly regarded within the Kenthurst community.

Jenny had been a valued member of the Kenthurst Rural Fire Brigade since 1992 and played an important role in the award-winning Kenthurst team that brought the Firewise program to the Kenthurst community and beyond.

Jenny was active in many areas of the Brigade, going above and beyond her role within the Community Engagement Team and the Communications Brigade. It was always wonderful to see Jenny's smiling face whenever you met her. She was always happy to stop for a chat or catch up over a coffee, and her warmth and friendliness touched so many people.

On behalf of the Kenthurst Rural Fire Brigade, we extend our deepest condolences to the Hancock family during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn the loss of their dear mum, grandmother, and loved one.

Jenny will be greatly missed by all within the Brigade and across The Hills District. We will remember her dedication, friendship, and contribution to our community. May she rest in peace and be reunited with her beloved Ray. 🌸🤍🕊️

Crews were out over the weekend assisting with the Venetta Road hazard reduction.

Wonderful effort working through both day and night shifts to get the burn done. Great result overall, getting some important fuel reduction done before summer.

𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀, 𝗧𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 & 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 🔥
Yesterday our crews had a very busy day attending illegal pile burns and attending to 000 calls from storm damage. Kenthurst RFB had a crew on standby at the station from 12:00pm due to the predicted dangerous fire conditions

Despite Saturday being a Total Fire Ban, at 3pm Kenthurst was responded to 000 calls reporting fire on a property in Maraylya. Once on scene we joined our colleagues from Oakville Rural Fire Brigade and NSW RFS - Box Hill Nelson Brigade who had already arrived where it was found that the resident had lit multiple large piles despite not only a Total Fire Ban day, but strong gusty winds present.

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fires which could have easily spread into the dry bushland with the winds gusting as they were.

Residents are reminded that not only do you need to adhere to the conditions that allow you to burn including suspension of burning once a Total Fire Ban is declared but also to assess if conditions are safe to burn. If you burn when conditions are dangerous or prohibited, it could result in serious consequences including the loss of life.

In addition you risk not only fines but other financial loss as if a fire escapes your property and causes damage to other property, you are legally liable for the loss.

The financial implications may be such that even if your home insurance may cover some of the loss, the total could easily exceed your cover.

Just after arriving back at station, the storm front came through, resulting in numerous 000 calls coming through.

Kenthurst RFB was responded to multiple calls across the Hills, Cumberland and Hawkesbury districts to calls including tree damage and electrical wires down. Crews worked on making safe property isolating areas and using chainsaws to remove fallen trees.

Numerous Hills crews from Wisemans Ferry in the north of the district down to North Rocks in the south were deployed to assist with the dealing with the 000 calls and worked through the night to make property safe.

Crews were eventually stood down late in the evening after a long day. Some have been back on the trucks today to participate in the Venetta hazard reduction located in Glenorie.

- TODAY Saturday 5th September -

A Total Fire Ban is in place today, Saturday 5th September for the Greater Sydney Region. It is forecast to experience Extreme Fire Danger with hot, dry and windy conditions.

Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Be ready to act. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

🔸These are dangerous fire conditions.
🔸Check your bush fire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready.
🔸If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
🔸Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas.

🚫TOTAL FIRE BAN RULES🚫

➡️ No fires during a Total Fire Ban

➡️ During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.

➡️ General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.

➡️ The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.

❗️Reminder❗️

✅ Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.

✅ Avoid Prolonged Outdoor Activities - especially during the hottest part of the day. Seek shade and take regular breaks if you need to be outside.

✅ Slip, Slop, Slap – Protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing.

✅ Check on Others – Look out for vulnerable people in our community, including elderly neighbours or those with health conditions.

Our crew was on site at the Kenthurst Football Club 2026 Presentation day, providing fire protection during the fireworks display and supporting our local community.

🔥𝗥𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲🔥
Kenthurst RFB, along with Round Corner Rural Fire Brigade responded to a late afternoon rubbish fire today.

Upon arrival, crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and ensure it was fully extinguished. Great teamwork by both brigades. 👏👏

𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭

Kenthurst Brigade along with other Hills Brigade members, including Fire Control staff, proudly laced up their boots to participate once again, in the annual ‘Relay for Life’ Charity event.

It was fantastic to see such an incredible turnout, and as a collective group The Hills RFS put in a wonderful effort to place third overall in the team standings. A huge thank you goes out to every single person who participated across all the teams to help raise vital funds and awareness.

This cause is deeply personal for us, as firefighters face a significantly higher risk of cancer due to the dangerous contaminants encountered at fires. Under the ‘Firefighters Presumptive Cancer Legislation’, any firefighter diagnosed with cancer, who meets the criteria, will be fully provided with the support they need.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, and to those who came along to cheer us all on. 💛
