Today, Jacy is a Trainee Park Ranger and we couldn’t prouder of how far he’s come!

Jacy has always known what he wanted: a career where he could connect with country and do work that truly matters.

Since joining the Transition to Work program in April 2025, Jacy has worked hard to get where he is today. He earned his driver's licence, sharpened his financial skills, and put in the effort to prepare himself for the workforce. But more than anything, he stayed true to what he's passionate about.

That passion led him to Western Mulga — a 100% Aboriginal owned and operated company doing incredible conservation work on country. Jacy threw himself into the role, gained valuable experience, and used it as a springboard for something even bigger.

He has now secured a Trainee Park Ranger position with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. He's out on country, doing meaningful work, and already pushing himself physically to rise to the demands of the role. That's the Jacy we know — determined and always giving his best.

Congratulations to Tarlia, one of our Transition to Work participants from Geraldton, WA, who recently secured her first job as a Retail Team Member at Spotlight.

Our team supported Tarlia by helping her build confidence, independence and job readiness.

This included:

• Connecting her with the Driver Safety Workshop, delivered alongside Remote Services from the Transport WA. Tarlia successfully gained her learner’s permit, giving her more independence to pursue work opportunities.

• Referring her to Dress for Success, where she received guidance on professional presentation and built confidence for job interviews.

Tarlia is now working towards her next goal: securing a hairdressing apprenticeship.

Our Transition to Work team will continue supporting her as she takes the next steps towards this dream.

Did you know we’ve supported 18 young people into jobs at Woolworths in Geraldton since 2024?

Through our Transition to Work program, we work with local employers like Woolworths to help young people take the next step into employment.

We support young people by helping them:
• Understand what employers are looking for
• Prepare for interviews and workplace expectations
• Build confidence and job-ready skills
• Connect with real job opportunities in the local community

We’re proud to partner with employers like Woolies who are willing to give young people a chance and support them as they start their working journey. (Shout out Woolies for providing the meat during our monthly community BBQs too!)

A huge congratulations to Donna, one of our Inclusive Employment Australia participants, from Belmont, WA!

When she first came to us, we listened and helped her identify practical options. Thanks to our strong industry partnerships, we connected Donna with Breight Training to complete a two-week scaffolding course to strengthen her employment prospects.

Her work ethic, focus and attention to detail impressed the trainers so much that they offered her a forklift licence free of charge to further boost her employability.

And now, Donna has been offered a position with Bundara West!

Donna’s success is especially meaningful as she steps into an industry where women continue to be underrepresented. Her achievement is a great example of the impact of targeted support, quality training and strong industry partnerships can have in opening doors for more women in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Congratulations, Donna! We’re excited to see where this next step takes you.

The “Around the Fire Pit Dining” Event we had in early May was a night of success!

On May 8th, we hosted our first event of this series for 2026 at Gwoonwardu Mia, in partnership with WA Tourism, Activated Hospitality, and guest Chef Dan Lyndon from Bimba Food.

The evening brought together community members, students, trainers, and industry partners for an exceptional dining experience filled with warmth and hospitality.

We’re so proud of our participants who are training in hospitality for providing an outstanding experience that left guests satisfied and impressed!

It was also great to see our alumni from previous hospitality courses returned to work alongside current students, providing mentorship, encouragement, and peer support.

Thank you to guest chef Dan Lyndon for sharing shared invaluable industry knowledge and culinary skills, inspiring students and strengthening their professional understanding.

Following the successful event, our participants have continued to expand their work experience opportunities through participation at Jardilunji Mia Café. This ongoing exposure allows them to further develop their hospitality, customer service, food preparation, and workplace communication skills within a real working environment. The continued engagement supports participants in building confidence, gaining industry-ready experience, and strengthening pathways into future employment opportunities within the hospitality sector.

Alaskah is embarking on her dream career as a marine biologist on the Great Barrier Reef!

Alaskah came to Real Futures as a participant in the Transition to Work program, where we supported her with exploring career pathways towards her goal of working in marine science. With our support, after going through a highly competitive recruitment process, Alaskah was offered an opportunity as a trainee marine biologist and diver on the Great Barrier Reef.

The Transition to Work team supported her with covering the cost of medical, fitness and diving assessments.

During this time, Alaskah was navigating health challenges so we referred her to our Inclusive Employment Australia team so that she can access more tailored support. Our Inclusive Employment Australia team supported her with her relocation from Geraldton, WA to Far North Queensland, and are continuing to support her as she embarks on her career in marine science.

We’re so excited for what lies ahead of you, Alaskah!

On 21 May, we celebrated the official opening of the newly renovated Women and Art Centre in Burringurah! (Yes, even the cow came to celebrate! 😉)

This project has been a true community effort from the start.
• 7 local people employed in construction
• Real training and hands-on skills gained
• Community Centre renovated and now fully operational
• Women and Art Centre reopened as a creative and cultural hub

Now, locals can use the Women and Art Centre to create artwork, preserve culture, and build micro-businesses by selling pieces at the community shop and Mt Augustus Resort.

A huge thanks to the local workers, community leaders, and partners who made this happen.

We're proud to share Tonuia's story, because it shows how trust unlocks potential.

As a young deaf Torres Strait Islander, Tonuia has navigated countless barriers with remarkable strength and determination. But one of the most powerful moments in our journey together was about connection.

During a recent appointment, Tonuia opened up about something close to his heart: his passion for art and painting, and his dream of building a career from it.

That moment of trust was significant. It reflected the safe, supportive space our Inclusive Employment Australia team in Kotara works hard to create—where people feel comfortable sharing not just their challenges, but their aspirations.

We immediately purchased art supplies so Tonuia could start bringing his vision to life. We recognise that meaningful employment support includes recognising each person's unique strengths and helping them build pathways that reflect who they are.

Tonuia's willingness to share his dreams shows growing confidence and connection. We're honoured to walk alongside him as he explores his creativity and works toward a future aligned with his identity, strengths, and goals.

The support we provide is personal, it's purposeful, and it starts with listening.
