Today we congratulated our Manager following her promotion to Area Commander โ€“ North-East.

We would like to sincerely thank Chief Superintendent Liz Ferris for her leadership, support, and commitment during her time with the District.

Lizโ€™s contribution to our members, brigades, staff, and communities has been greatly valued and appreciated.

While we are sad to see Liz leave, this promotion is a well-deserved recognition of her dedication and leadership.

Congratulations on your new role, and thank you for everything you have contributed to the District. We wish you all the very best for the future.

Congratulations to Dianne Camm - very well deserved. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

As National Volunteer Week draws to a close, we want to take a moment to thank the incredible volunteers who give their time, skills and energy to support communities across Australia.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œYour Year to Volunteerโ€, honours the contributions of volunteers and encourages people to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement, in ways that work for them.

Across the NSW RFS, our volunteers continue to make a difference every day - supporting communities during emergencies, training, community engagement activities and behind-the-scenes support roles. Your commitment helps create stronger, safer and more connected communities.

Volunteering is more than giving your time. It creates connection, purpose and lasting positive change.

To every one of our volunteers - thank you for what you do.

If youโ€™ve ever thought about volunteering, maybe this is your year to get involved.

Another step towards Advanced Firefighter qualification for our members, with crews completing the Hydraulics (HYD) course. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’ง

The course develops the skills required to safely carry out pumping operations, including operating pumps, calculating and delivering adequate flow rates and pressures, and working effectively under supervision in dynamic incident environments.

Hydraulics is one of four courses required for the Advanced Firefighter qualification and plays a critical role in ensuring crews can deliver water safely and effectively on the fireground.

Well done to all members who took part, along with the trainers and support crews who helped make the course a success.

Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since theyโ€™ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

This Motherโ€™s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Today, members from across the district undertook practical assessments in the Crew Leader Wildfire and Crew Leader Supervision qualifications.

These assessments challenged members through a range of realistic incident scenarios, including briefing crews whilst enroute to incidents, conducting size ups, establishing control, implementing tactics, maintaining crew safety and communicating strategies effectively.

Reaching this stage is a significant achievement, with volunteers first completing the Foundational and Technical Programs before progressing into supervision and leadership roles.

A huge thank you to all members involved today - not only those being assessed, but also the many supporting volunteers who helped make the day a success. From evidence gatherers and role players through to communications operators and assessors, your contribution ensured valuable and realistic training outcomes for everyone involved.

Well done to all members for your professionalism, teamwork and commitment to developing the leadership capability of our district.
