🪿 Spread your wings and flutter on down to the Garden this Friday!

Join us for a special bird-themed Budding Bookworms session filled with stories, songs and creative craft activities perfect for curious little minds.

Little birdwatchers will love listening to enchanting stories about birds, singing along to favourite tunes and getting crafty with a fun nature-inspired activity. Our wonderful librarians from Wollongong City Libraries will be sharing a flock of fantastic books sure to delight children and their grown-ups alike.

🌺 With the Garden alive with colour and fresh new growth around every corner, spring is the perfect time to hop aboard a free Buggy Tour.

Hop aboard our electric buggy and experience the Garden from a whole new perspective! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a leisurely ride as our friendly volunteer guides take you through wonderful garden collections representing landscapes from Australia and around the world, all from the comfort of your buggy seat.

📅 When: Wednesdays, 10am–12pm
📍 Where: Tours depart from the Pond
⏱️ Duration: 30–45 minutes per tour

Seats are limited, so be sure to arrive early. No bookings are required for these weekly tours!

👧 Buggy Tours are suitable for children aged 3+, who must be able to sit on the seat unassisted (not on a lap).

Come along this spring and enjoy a relaxing ride through nature while taking in the season's spectacular flowers! 🌸

Our first Greenplan Plant Sale of spring is the perfect time to create a garden that supports native bees, butterflies and other important pollinators.

Native plants provide a valuable source of nectar and pollen throughout the seasons, helping local wildlife thrive while bringing beautiful colour, texture and life to your garden.

Here are just a few pollinator-friendly natives available at our sale on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟴 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿:

🌱 Coastal Rosemary (Westringia fruticosa) - a hardy shrub with white, mauve flowers in spring

🌱 Hillock Bush (Meleleuca hypericifolia) - a striking native shrub with vibrant bottlebrush-style blooms loved by pollinators.

🌱 Mint Bush (Prostanthera sieberi) - a shrub with minty aromatic foliage and violet flowers throughout spring and early summer

Aww... what a heartwarming sight! 💛

This beautiful Australian Wood Duck (Chenonetta jubata) mother caring for her young ducklings is a special wildlife moment perfectly captured by . Thank you for sharing this stunning photo with us.

Did you know Australian Wood Ducks are remarkably devoted parents?

🦆 Family focused
Wood Duck families often stay together long after the ducklings hatch, with the young remaining under their parents' watchful care until they are fully independent.

🦆 Parenting is a team effort
While the female incubates the eggs, the male stays nearby to help protect the nesting area. Once the ducklings hatch, both parents work together to guide and guard their brood.

🦆 A leap of faith
Just one or two days after hatching, ducklings make an incredible jump from their nest high in a tree hollow to the ground below. Their soft down and lightweight bodies help cushion the landing.

🦆 Excellent shepherds
Parents carefully lead their ducklings to feeding areas and water, using calls and constant vigilance to keep the family together and safe.

🦆 Graziers
Unlike many duck species, Australian Wood Ducks spend much of their time grazing on grass and clover in parks and open lawns. Their ducklings learn these foraging habits from an early age.

Keep an eye out for this adorable family around our duck pond! 💚

And remember, our wildlife thrives best when admired from a distance. Please don't feed the ducks and give them plenty of space to go about their natural behaviours.
