Senior Fire Fighter Johnny Martin and Station Commander Dale Wade-Ferrell spoke to Robyn Catchlove on Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 this morning about Winter Fire Safety and how Blue Mountains residents can take advantage of FREE Safety Visits and installation of smoke alarms even though Spring is just around the corner.

26 people have tragically died in residential fires this year with many fire fatalities avoidable with the presence of working smoke alarms. Dale & Johnny spoke about a range of topics to remind people to take responsibility for their home fire safety and give us a call if you need help.

While the regular Blackheath On-Call crew were all busy supporting each other in the City 2 Surf event today, some familiar faces were covering the station area and headed off in the early hours to be part of the local scene, attending the Blackheath Growers Market, sharing fire safety information and advice... Only Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives !!

Fire stations right across the Blue Mountains and NSW have been offering FREE Home Fire Safety Visits in recent years and we're happy to drop by on your invitation.

We're in and out within 20-30 mins usually, we'll check your existing smoke alarms, install new ones if needed, provide some fire safety advice and tips for the home and answer any questions or concerns you have about fire safety in the home or the environment if you're in a bushfire prone location.

Yesterday was St Florian's Day, and our own Deputy Captain and the backbone of our station Mark Hawling recieved a Commendation for his work at a job in 2019 with other crew members from our station. This is well deserved recognition for one of our most respected and treasured members of our crew. Mark is pictured here with Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell AFSM and members of our neighbour station Fire and Rescue NSW Station 343 Katoomba also part of the job that night

Today we recognise St Florian’s Day, honouring the patron saint of firefighters and the courage, dedication, and sacrifice shown by firefighters around the world.

At Station 216 Bathurst, we are proud to serve our community, by always being prepared for anything to protect the irreplaceable.

Like guardians of peace in a galaxy far, far away, firefighters operate as a team, rely on training and skill, and answer the call when duty demands it, because protecting the community is always the mission.

Today we also acknowledge firefighters everywhere who put themselves on the line to keep others safe, as well as the families, friends, and support crews who make that service possible.

May the Fourth be with you 🚀

Lithium-ion Battery Safety is a hot topic in 2026 and Katoomba fire fighters are supporting the new 'Shop, Charge & Recycle Safely' campaign.

Just because a charger fits, doesn't mean it's safe. If it didn't come with your device or battery, don't use it. Stick to approved chargers and look for the Australian Regulatory Compliance Mark to make sure it's both safe and compatible.
