In this case the DC Isolator caught fire and then set fire to leaf litter under the Solar Panels.

Due to heightened weather conditions and high fire danger next week, there is a Local Fire Ban for Redland City Council LGA for Sunday 26/10 and Monday 27/10.
Power tools may be used, with care and small contained fire pits may still be used during this fire ban.

🔥 Scary news! We’ve had another close call with a battery causing a potentially life-endangering fire.

This time, it was at our Russell Island Recycling and Waste Centre where a large lithium battery ignited an old vehicle in the scrap metal stockpile.

Fortunately, emergency services were quick to extinguish the fire and work with our team to manage the risk.

⚠️ A reminder that batteries – such as the lithium batteries used in e-scooters, smartphones and power tools – are not accepted at our Recycling and Waste Centres. Instead, visit Bcycle.com.au for drop-off locations.

Lead acid car batteries are accepted at all Recycling and Waste Centres except Karragarra and Lamb islands.
