SOUTH KINCUMBER-

Just after 5pm last night, numerous calls began to be received by Newcastle Communications regarding a house fire at South Kincumber.
Numerous trucks were responded including Kincumber, Umina and Terrigal and once on scene at the incident it was confirmed a double storey house was fully involved in fire.
The incident was escalated to a Structure Fire 3rd Alarm which then responded many more resources from across the coast. Due to the commitment of many resources to the Calga Fire resources were severely stretched with some Sydney and Newcastle crews being requested to standby at Central Coast stations.
Whilst first arriving crews deployed hose lines into the house and commenced fire attack. Unfortunately the fire quickly took hold and crews were forced to withdraw from the house to attack from external positions.
Despite the best efforts of crews the house was totally destroyed by fire. Once ventilation and primary investigations has been completed, crews begun to be stood down around 9pm and the scene was handed over to NSW Police with some crews rotating through fire duty throughout the early morning and into today.

CALGA-
Shortly after 2pm yesterday afternoon, 341 Kariong was responded to assist the RFS with a bushfire on Peats Ridge at Calga.
P341A responded and once in the area liased with the RFS Incident Commander and were tasked to relocate to Jones Rd to provide property protection and ensure a large diesel storage tank was protected from ember attack.
On route BT341 was also assigned to the incident shortly followed by P341B, meaning all 3 of our trucks were committed to the incident.
We were also joined by CT509 (Wyoming) which allowed RFS resources to be assigned to higher risks within the fireground.
FRNSW crews worked to contain the area and once the area was deemed to be safe just after 6pm the area was handed back to the RFS and FRNSW crews departed.

To the dads who proudly serve our community, who proudly wear the uniform and commit to the job, thank you for leading by example, serving your community and showing what courage, commitment and compassion look like every day.

To the husbands, partners and dads who answer the pager when duty calls, thank you for balancing family life whilst serving others. Your willingness to step away from birthdays, dinners, weekends and family time to help those in need does not go unnoticed.

To the wives, partners and families who support our firefighter dads, thank you for your understanding, encouragement and the sacrifices you make behind the scenes. Your support allows our firefighters to answer the call when our community needs them most. You are superstars!

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Saturday 5 September for the Greater Sydney Region (which incorporates the Central Coast) with Extreme fire danger forecast.

Warm, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, with much of northeast NSW experiencing High fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Remember to report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

Outside of Total Fire Ban days, Solid Fuel and Park Fire Bans may be declared in NSW State Forests and NSW National Parks where the potential risk to visitors from fire is high.

🔥 Training and Preparation for the fire season ahead

Last night, we held a training session focussed on the upcoming bushfire season. With particular attention being paid to one of Kariongs greatest assets, our Bulk Tanker

Crews who are qualified on the appliance, refreshed themselves and others were given a briefing session on the truck and its capabilities.

We also discussed how multiple crews and trucks can work together during a fast-moving fire, while also discussing the hazards we may encounter around everyday homes and the bush fire interface.

Bush fire risks don’t stop at the fence line though.

Long grass, overgrown vegetation, stored fuel, gas bottles, batteries and other combustible materials can all make a property more dangerous to defend.

As we head towards fire season, now is a good time to take a look around your own property, prepare it as best as possible and assist us firefighters if the worst is to happen.

Keeping lawns and vegetation maintained, removing unnecessary combustible material and safely storing fuels and batteries are simple things that can make a big difference if fire threatens.

Next week we look forward to paying Somersby Rural Fire Brigade a visit to gather an understanding and valuable preparation for the warmer months ahead.

WOY WOY-
Just prior to 11pm last night, numerous calls began to be received by Newcastle Communications regarding a house fire at Woy Woy. CAP340 and P340B (Umina) and P341A and P341B Kariong) were responded and once on scene the incident confirmed a house fully involved in fire with no persons inside. DCCC (Duty Commander Central Coast) responded as well
Whilst first arriving crews deployed hose lines into the building and commenced fire attack. Fire control was quickly gained and the fire extinguished after some difficulties accessing the roof space.
Despite the best efforts of crews the house was totally destroyed by fire. Once ventilation and primary investigations had concluded the scene was handed over to NSW Police.

Climb Accomplished ✅

Today Chris and Kiara commenced there climb at 9am to take on the Furbur stairs for the Firies Climb for MND and they smashed it out the park!

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to them. They could not have done this without you all!

🚒 Today’s the big day,
Kariong firefighters Chris and Kiara are charging in to complete the Firies Climb for MND.

They are all geared up, caffeinated, slightly nervous, and absolutely ready to tackle thousands of steps for the Firies Climb.

They are climbing for a cure and climbing for the families affected.

Every step counts. Every gasp counts. Every “why are we doing this to ourselves” moment counts.

If you see us out there today, yell something encouraging — apparently we climb faster when our pride is on the line.
