When our community faces tough times, this group of people is the first to run towards danger, to protect us.

Our firefighters and emergency service personnel deserve thanks every day, but I wanted to especially thank them with a reception at Parliament this week.

Thank you to Emergency Services Minister Rhiannon Pearce MP for joining me in thanking these hard working volunteers, as we marked St Florians Day - International Firefighters' Day.

🔥 St Florian Day 4th May – Honouring Our Firefighters 🔥

Today we recognise St Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, and take a moment to honour the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of all CFS volunteers across South Australia.

Every day, our volunteers put themselves on the line to protect lives, property, and communities. Whether it’s responding to bushfires, road crashes, or supporting their communities in times of need their dedication does not go unnoticed.

On St Florian Day, we thank each and every member of the Country Fire Service Volunteers Association and the broader CFS family for your service, resilience, and unwavering commitment.

⚠️ Elevated Fire Weather Forecast for Tomorrow ⚠️

While tomorrow officially marks the end of the Fire Danger Season, dry conditions remain across the state and continue to pose an increased fire risk.

This week alone, our volunteers have responded to more than 14 grass fires across the state, highlighting how quickly fires can start and spread.

🔥 With the risk still in the landscape, please take caution and remain vigilant when conducting any activity involving fire.

If conducting a burn, ensure a responsible person is in attendance at all times, water or a suitable fire extinguisher is available, and regularly check once the fire is extinguished to ensure it hasn't reignited. Ensure you follow any local restrictions or guidelines.

Your actions can help prevent unwanted fires and keep our communities safe.

An important responsibility that Concordia CFS has from time to time is to establish a suitable helicopter landing site for the incredible crews of the SAAS MedSTAR Rescue Helicopters.

This responsibility involves dedicating one of our crew members who has completed specialised training to act as the dedicated Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO). The job is time sensitive so to establish an appropriate landing site requires the HLO and our crews to communicate clearly and work together to assess any hazards such as traffic, fences, trees, powerlines and other obstacles that could pose a risk to the helicopter.

We communicate directly with the pilots of the Medstar Rescue Helicopter via radio acting as the eyes and ears on the ground helping to ensure the team can land and take off safely.

A prescribed burn is planned in the north-western section of Warren Reservoir Reserve, 3km south east of Williamstown, on Saturday 18 April 2026, weather conditions permitting.

The prescribed burn will start at 12pm and is likely to be completed by 8pm. Smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

◾The area to be burnt is 12 hectares.

◾There will be no public access to the western side of Warren Reservoir during the burn.

◾This is a landscape protection burn to reduce bushfire risk and any impact on local communities, water quality and supply.

◾Smoke may be visible from Warren Road.

◾This burn was originally scheduled for Monday 13 April but was postponed.

National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
