🌱♻️ Waste to Worms, Recycling & Repair — Project Wrap Up

A big congratulations to the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes on wrapping up their 2024 WasteSorted Community Education project 👏

They delivered workshops, school visits and community events that helped locals build practical skills in composting, recycling and repair. These efforts are already reducing waste, keeping organics out of landfill and encouraging reuse.

🌟 Project highlights
✅ reached around 2,500 people through activities and events
✅ supported 60 households to start worm farming using repurposed rubbish bins (above and in-ground systems)
✅ established a local Repair Café that is continuing beyond the project

Great to see a community-led project supporting lasting behaviour change and a more circular approach to waste in the South West 🌱♻️

It highlights the value of circular economy approaches in large-scale infrastructure projects.

Find out more:

The experience of decommissioning Australia's second-oldest wind farm proves that selling parts for re-use can be a great deal cheaper than sending them to landfill.

♻️ Building a circular economy here in WA ♻️

A new investment through the Cook Government’s Remade in WA initiative is helping reduce waste and keep valuable materials in use for longer.

The $17.8 million program will support recycling pathways for solar panels and batteries, helping divert complex waste from landfill while creating new opportunities for local jobs and industry.

By recovering materials and designing better end-of-life solutions, we can move closer to a low‑waste, circular economy and a more sustainable future for Western Australians.

👉 Read more:

The Cook Labor Government is investing $17.8 million in the 2026-27 State Budget to build Western Australia's capacity to recycle solar panels and embedded batteries, protecting the State's environment while creating new industries and supporting local jobs.
