🎉 Congratulations to our On-Call Captain! 🎉

Our very own Captain, David Farmer, has been awarded the prestigious Emergency Services Medal (ESM) in the Kings Birthday Honours List 2026🏅

Our Captain’s commitment to emergency service extends well beyond Fire and Rescue NSW. David became the first inland Marine Rescue NSW Coxswain in the state and continues to serve as both Coxswain and Deputy Unit Commander for Marine Rescue Alpine Lakes. He has helped deliver 24/7 marine search and rescue capability across Lake Jindabyne, Lake Eucumbene and surrounding alpine waterways.

He has served as an on-call firefighter and Station Commander for more than 36 years with Fire and Rescue NSW at Jindabyne, responding to numerous emergencies including the 2003 and 2019 bushfires and the Thredbo landslide disaster, demonstrating a lifetime dedication to protecting regional communities.

The Emergency Services Medal is a highly esteemed national honour that recognises distinguished service by members of Australia's emergency service organisations. Captain Farmer has always demonstrated unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe.

Please join us in sending a massive THANK YOU and congratulations for this incredible and deserved recognition! 👏🚒

Our friends at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 426 Perisher Valley waking up to a winter wonderland! ❄️

If you are driving through the Snowy Mountains this long weekend, please slow down and drive strictly to the conditions, even when not in the mountains.

⚠️ Quick Check:
Do you have your snow chains in the boot? ⛓️
Did you check LiveTraffic for a report on current road conditions? ⛔️
Are you keeping a safe, extended gap from the car ahead? 🚗 ↔️ 🚗

Take your time, be patient, and get to the snow safely.

A day of local teamwork! 🤝

We spent this past weekend leveling up our skills at an Alpine Emergency Management Workshop with our friends from Monaro Police District, NSW Ambulance, NSW SES - Snowy River Unit, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 426 Perisher Valley, NSW RFS - Snowy Monaro District and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. It wasn’t just about the gear (though the gear was pretty cool); it was about ensuring that when a call comes in, all our local agencies work together like a well-oiled machine.

What went down:

🚒 Show & Tell: A deep dive into the specialist vehicles and PPE each agency carries and what can be used for different situations.

👀 Eye in the Sky: Demonstrations of our latest drone technology and mapping software.

🌲 Expert Intel: Briefings from NPWS on navigating and looking after our local alpine environment.

🚁 Helo Ops: Getting hands-on with helicopter safety and deployment.

It’s days like these that make our community safer.

🚒 Station Update: Open Day Postponed

Hey Jindabyne community! 🏔️

We know many of you were looking forward to visiting the station this weekend for Open Day, but we have a quick update to share.

Due to renovations at the station, we unfortunately won’t be able to host our Open Day this weekend. At the moment, the station is a bit of a construction zone!

The good news? We still want to see you! We will be announcing a new date for our Open Day as soon as the dust settles and the paint is dry.

Stay tuned to our page for updates on the new date, make sure to give us a follow so you can keep up to date. We can’t wait to show you the improvements on our station soon! 👀

Lest we forget. 🌹

Yesterday, the crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 338 Jindabyne was honored to march alongside our brothers and sisters from NSW Ambulance, NSW SES - Snowy River Unit, Marine Rescue Alpine Lakes and Monaro Police District for the ANZAC Day parade.

It’s a privilege to stand together—not just as first responders, but as a community—to pay our respects to the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Seeing the incredible turnout from the Snowy Mountains community makes us proud to serve this region. Whether on the front lines abroad or here at home, the ANZAC spirit of mateship and courage lives on.

We will remember them.

🔥Thinking of lighting a fire in a built up area? Let’s pause for a sec..🔥

🚫 backyard BBQ rules do not apply
🚒 fire trucks prefer emergencies, not surprises
👀 your neighbours will notice..

If you’re planning to burn off, light a pile of vegetation, or have any open fire in a built-up or residential area, you may need a fire permit and approval before you do anything.

✅ even small fires can escape
✅ smoke can impact neighbours and road users (we hate when you have to re-do your washing)
✅ conditions can change quickly

Before lighting a fire:
👉 check with your local FRNSW station or RFS station first
👉 make sure conditions are safe and legal

Lighting a fire without approval can lead to fines, unwanted attention, and awkward conversations with firefighters.. do the right thing - check first and keep everyone safe.

The training never stops at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 338 Jindabyne 🧑🏽‍🚒🔥

Our local crew recently completed their SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) refresher in the BA semi which travels around NSW. You might have seen this parked out the front! It’s a smoky, furniture filled truck with casualties everywhere..

When we’re called to a structure fire or hazardous environment, being able to rely on our gear - and our training - is what keeps us safe so we can protect you 🧡

From pre-op checks, dual cylinder wearing and sharing emergency air, these sessions ensure every retained firefighter is sharp, fast and ready to go when they need to 🚒💨
