Our crews have had a very busy weekend fighting fires in our local area.

This is a timely reminder to be bush fire ready and have a plan in place when things head south. Stay safe this bush fire season!

🚫 FIRE BAN FOR IPSWICH AND LOCKYER VALLEY🚫

Due to heightened fire conditions, a local fire ban will be in place for the following Local Government Areas:

• Ipswich City
• Lockyer Valley Regional

For residents in these areas, the ban will be in place from 0001hrs Sunday 6 September 2026.
Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been suspended for the duration of the ban.

🚒 Don't ever wash your gear at your home.
PPC can hold onto many of the carcinogenic chemicals from a job, particularly the nomex or PBI structural gear which adsorbs gasses at an incident, then 'degasses' over a period of time afterwards.
Gear must be sent away and laundered by contractors.
Brigades gave a duty of care!

*If you take your PPC into your cars, homes or launder your gear at home, your family will be exposed to toxins & carcinogens. 🚒

Yesterday the brigade came together with a few members from other areas to do our First Aid and CPR refresher.

It is such a great experience to do a refresher on First Aid, you never know when you will need to use it.

Congratulations to our very own Britt!

Britt has successfully passed her auxiliary fire training today and is proud to join her father Craig in the auxiliary world.

It has being a privilege to watch Britt grow and achieve her goals. We are very proud of you Britt!

It's nice to see our little town recognised and the hard work our First Officer puts in for her community!

First officer Donna Jackwitz has been with her brigade 37 years, with her three children Rachel, Jael and Daniel – all in their 30s – all joining at 16.
Grandchester is a brigade of 25 serving the small community west of Ipswich, but also reaching out towards the Lockyer Valley.
“I’ve made it my unpaid career – I just love doing it,” Donna says.
“Grandchester is a little village with a school, a pub and our fire brigade. We’ve also got the Spicer’s Hidden Vale retreat nearby and we often get called out towards Laidley.
Donna predicts another busy year for her brigade.
“Fires have already started this year.”
