🎀 STUDENT LEADERSHIP | CAPTAIN & VICE CAPTAIN SPEECHES

Our Year 11 students recently took to the stage to deliver their Captain and Vice Captain speeches, with an incredible 21 students putting their hands up for leadership in 2027.

Each candidate shared with their peers why they believe they are the right person to represent Ripley Valley State Secondary College, the kind of leader they hope to be, the unique ideas they would bring to the role, and how they would work to improve both our college and the everyday school experience for students.

It takes plenty of courage to stand in front of your peers, put your ideas forward and ask for their support. We are incredibly proud of every student who nominated and embraced the opportunity to have their voice heard.

Now, the decision is in the hands of their peers. πŸ—³οΈ

Best of luck to all of our candidates!

🍽️ Year 11 Hospitality in Action!

Our Certificate II in Hospitality students recently put their skills into practice at the Creative Industries Fair, preparing, producing and serving a selection of delicious canapΓ©s for event guests.

From kitchen preparation through to service, students worked as a team to deliver a professional hospitality experience while building valuable hands-on industry skills.

It was a fantastic opportunity to work in a real event environment, grow their confidence and showcase everything they’ve been learning.

πŸ‘ Well done, Year 11!

🏺 Australian Identity Through Art

Our Year 10 students are currently creating their own Story-pots, exploring ideas of Australian identity through art.

Students have investigated the work of other artists before experimenting, designing and creating pieces of their own β€” using symbolism, creativity and technical skill to tell a story and engage their audience.

We’re looking forward to seeing these ideas come together in the finished pieces!

πŸ‘€ Completed works coming soon β€” watch this space!

πŸ’› R U OK? DAY πŸ’›

Today, our college community came together to recognise R U OK? Day and the importance of checking in with those around us.

Students filled balloons with positive messages, painted kindness rocks, dressed up, enjoyed Just Dance in the Raptor Dome and purchased cupcakes from the SRC.

They also added their handprints to a large canvas, creating a colourful collective artwork that celebrates connection, belonging and the strength of our community.

A simple conversation can make a real difference. You do not need to be an expert to ask, β€œAre you OK?” Sometimes, simply listening is enough.

Thank you to our chappie Mr Atkins, Peer Mentors, SRC and everyone who helped make today such a positive and meaningful occasion at Ripley Valley State Secondary College.

πŸŽ–οΈ VETERANS AND PEACEKEEPERS RECOGNITION DAY

On Tuesday, our Defence School Mentor Leslee Duggan, Defence Peer Mentor Jayla, students Amber and Oliver, and Guidance Officer Erin Bastion represented Ripley Valley State Secondary College at the Commemorative Service for Veterans and ADF Members of Middle Eastern Areas of Operations and Peacekeepers Recognition Day, held at the Ipswich RSL Sub Branch.

The service recognised those who have served, those who continue to serve, and those who lost their lives in modern wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations since the Vietnam War.

Brigadier Arran Hassell CSC, Director General Military Strategic Plans and Vice President of RSL Queensland, shared reflections from his deployment to Afghanistan, speaking about his memories of service, what serving our country meant to him, and the impact deployment can have on families.

He left those in attendance with a powerful message:

β€œHow are you making your life matter? Let’s make our lives matter for those who never got to live theirs.”

We are proud of our students and staff for taking part in this important commemorative service and continuing to honour the service and sacrifice of Australian Defence Force personnel.

Lest We Forget. 🌺

The full service is available to watch through the Ipswich RSL Sub Branch Inc page. We also encourage our community to follow their page for information about future commemorative services and events.
