FIRE PERMITS SUSPENDED – MONDAY 7th September until MONDAY 14th September
due to the forecast High Fire Danger, all fire permits in Inverell & Tentrerfield LGA's are suspended from midnight today until Midnight Monday morning.
This measure is being taken to reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading under the heightened fire conditions.
If you currently hold a fire permit, you are unable to light new fires or stoke up existing fires during the suspension period. Please ensure any planned burns or activities requiring a permit are postponed.
Failure in complying with this suspension WILL result in heavy fines.

Written expressions of interest are invited and will be received from individuals and organisations with the necessary plant, equipment and available skilled and ticketed operators with knowledge and experience in the relevant plant/equipment operation, to express an interest in providing wet and dry plant/equipment hire to Inverell Shire Council and form part of the panel of Contractors and Supply/Occasional Providers Panel.

The supplied rates will become effective upon receival and will remain in place until such time as they are updated by said contractor. Expressions of interest are sought across the Civil Construction Fleet and should be submitted in accordance with the EOI Package.

Expressions of interest will include the following:

• Hourly rates including GST for plant/equipment hire;
• Hourly rates for skilled and ticketed operators including GST;
• Haulage rates by tonne including GST;
• Full details of plant and equipment (including capacity);
• Current Registration details;
• Details of all Insurances (evidenced by Certificates of Currency).

Inverell Shire Council has appointed Mr Wayne Ehsman as a community representative on the Sapphire Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund Committee.

Mr Ehsman was appointed following an Expression of Interest process to fill a community representative vacancy created by the resignation of Mr Brad Hilton in June.

The Committee manages the distribution of funds provided by the Sapphire Wind Farm developer, supporting community projects, infrastructure and services within the boundaries of Inverell Shire.

The Sapphire Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund was established in 2018 to deliver community benefits, support the work of community-based groups and encourage local innovation in service delivery. The fund currently provides $182,500 annually, allocated across two funding rounds each year.

Mayor of Inverell Shire, Cr Kate Dight, said “The Sapphire Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund has supported a wide range of local projects and continues to provide an important opportunity for community organisations to bring forward ideas that benefit Inverell Shire. Mr Ehsman’s appointment will help ensure local knowledge continues to guide the Committee’s assessment of applications and the distribution of funding to projects that deliver positive outcomes for our community.”

The Committee meets twice yearly to review funding applications and includes two Councillor representatives, one Sapphire Wind Farm representative and two community members.

The reserve facilities, boardwalk, observation deck and kayak launch are still open.

𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐒𝐂 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Inverell Library is trialling weekly after-hours study sessions to support local HSC students as they prepare for their final examinations.

The sessions commenced on Tuesday, 11 August and will continue each Tuesday evening until 3 November 2026, providing students with access to a quiet, supervised and distraction-free space for individual or group study.

After-hours access will be available from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm, with students required to enter the library before the normal closing time of 5.30 pm.

Mayor of Inverell Shire, Cr Kate Dight, said the trial recognised the important role libraries play in supporting young people and lifelong learning.

“The HSC period can be a demanding time for students and Inverell Library is pleased to offer a safe, quiet and supportive environment where they can focus on their study. Library staff regularly see students using the library during exam preparation and this trial provides additional structured time for those who may benefit from a dedicated study space.”

Two staff members will be in attendance during each session and will be available to provide support, including targeted demonstrations of the library’s online information resources. Students will be asked to sign a register and provide an emergency contact. Light refreshments will be provided.

The trial will be reviewed in mid-September to assess student demand, operational requirements and the overall value of providing extended access during the HSC examination period.

𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐘𝐞𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬

Inverell Shire Council has endorsed the renewal of all asbestos cement water mains within the Yetman water reticulation network, with the project to improve reliability, reduce water losses and address ageing infrastructure nearing the end of its useful life.

The Yetman Water Supply Scheme services 68 water connections and operates under a water licence allowing an annual extraction volume of 35 megalitres. Water main breaks and associated losses have contributed to higher overall water use, with losses in 2023/24 equating to 49 per cent of total water produced.

The existing reticulation system was constructed in 1968 and is predominantly made up of asbestos cement pipework. Operational records show recurring main breaks, with 43 recorded failures over the past four financial years.

The works will involve constructing new PVC water mains to replace the original asbestos cement mains. The project will also improve water circulation, flow and water quality throughout the village.

Mayor of Inverell Shire, Cr Kate Dight, said the renewal would deliver important long-term benefits for the Yetman community.

“This project is a practical and necessary investment in the reliability of Yetman’s water supply. By replacing ageing mains, Council can reduce water losses, minimise future service interruptions and improve the overall performance of the network for residents and businesses.”

The project is estimated to cost $485,853 and will be funded from Council’s Water Fund reserves. Works will be delivered in-house and are expected to take approximately 10 weeks, weather permitting. Council will notify residents and affected property owners prior to any planned water supply interruptions during the connection of individual services to the new mains.
